Dianna's actions
Buildings
Install A Toilet Tank Bank
Low-Flow Fixtures
I will reduce the amount of water flushed and save up to 11 gallons (41 L) of water a day or 330 gallons (1,230 L) a month by installing a toilet tank bank.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 1 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Action Track: Healing & Renewal
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 15 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Action Track: Healing & Renewal
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.

Dianna Balestra 11/09/2022 11:10 PMThis was really fun, it was nice to be able to see the progress we made in being better. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Install a Low-Flow ShowerheadWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Dianna Balestra 11/08/2022 2:19 PMPG&E gave my parents an extra shower head that stops the shower every so often, so you got to pull a chain on it to continue the shower, at first it was weird but it made me more conscious of how much water I was using. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Install A Toilet Tank BankHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Dianna Balestra 11/08/2022 2:14 PMI forgot to mention this, but I took the bus to Monterey to explore around and it was fun, I did some grocery shopping and got some food, then headed home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Dianna Balestra 11/08/2022 2:13 PMBeing able to know where my food came from, and knowing that it isn't processed, which makes is a lot healthier than the food I've been eating. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Dianna Balestra 11/08/2022 2:11 PMI've always rode a bike or taken the bus, my parents worked early so I had to learn to take the bus from my sisters, so I'd say I'm pretty comfortable. There are even apps now to help find routes you need to take or check how long your bus is going to take, which is great. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal More Fruits And VeggiesHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Dianna Balestra 11/08/2022 2:08 PMThere isn't much I would change because I like taking walks around the neighborhood, and other than houses, there's a lot of open areas and trees so there isn't anything that bothers me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Dianna Balestra 11/08/2022 2:04 PMBeing able to just concentrate on eating, rather than eating and watching something has decreased my appetite.
