REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Nutrient ManagementHow does environmental quality influence your sense of community?
Irma Barreno 6/14/2021 7:15 AMI think that it greatly strengthens our sense of community when we buy local and support organic farmers. They have only a certain amount of people they can reach out to, so bringing awareness to others will increase their business, profit everyone, and build a supportive community -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Go by BikeHow does using human-powered transportation make you feel compared to using other methods of transportation?
Irma Barreno 6/14/2021 7:09 AMEnergized, although a little windblown. I'm hoping one of the things to come out of this pandemic is the realization of all the things we can do without. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric VehicleReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
Irma Barreno 6/14/2021 7:00 AMWe have an older car in our household and we have been researching how and when to replace it, trying to balance the resource use inherent in purchasing a new vehicle, versus maintaining the one we have. At this time, the environmental impact is less if we continue to drive our older car, but when that changes, we intend to shift to a hybrid or electric model. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Irma Barreno 6/14/2021 6:50 AMIf you see what is around you it makes you appreciate and want to go outside more. By going outside, walking somewhere, appreciating your surroundings you are learning and you want to be surrounded by a beautiful area. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Improve a Bus StopHow can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
Irma Barreno 6/14/2021 6:47 AMExpanding public transportation and bus rapid transit to cover more area. So people can go to the city by public transportation and control time to arrival. When we use public transport it will reduce co2 emission and have sustainability in cities. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Irma Barreno 6/14/2021 6:37 AMEver since I do my grocery shopping by myself I have been confused on the " Use by, sell by, best by" After reading about the differences I learned that the Use by and best by date is directed to the consumer. These dates are recommended to consumers for the to consumption of the product before a certain date for best quality and health reasons. The sell by is directed to the seller for recommended date to sella product. The product is still safe to consume after the sell by date for a few more days. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Fund Family PlanningWhen family planning focuses on healthcare provision and meeting the expressed needs of women, it results in empowerment, equality, and well-being, and the benefits to the planet are side effects. Why is family planning an important civil rights consideration?
Irma Barreno 6/14/2021 6:33 AMI believe that everyone should have access to safe family planning because is a human right. women and men should have the right to decide if they want to have kids, when or if they want to have kids at all. In addition to this, family planning is a key factor in reducing poverty. Many underdeveloped countries don't have access to free family planning clinics. This threatens their ability to build a better future for themselves, their families and their communities. Governments should develop policies offering family programs for low income families. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Irma Barreno 6/14/2021 6:32 AMI love seafood, my family and I probably eat seafood once a week. Tilapia, Sea bass and Salmon are our favorite. Fortunately there is no restriction for the intake of these species. It never crossed my mind to check the health advisories for eating fish, but now that I know there is one I will check to make sure my diet falls under the guidelines. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal More Fruits And VeggiesHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Irma Barreno 6/14/2021 6:23 AMResearch clearly signifies that a diet heavy in meat increases the risk of obesity, cancer and heart disease. Reducing the level of meat in our diets positively contributes to our health, as well the more people aware developing meat consciousness can also have a ripple effect by also reducing the level of meat in their diets. Our planet is suffering, the livestock to raise cows, pigs and chickens contributes quite more then cars, trucks and automobiles greenhouse gas emissions. Shifting to plant based foods can positively affect our planet by combating climate change, industrial livestock production, soil, air and water pollution. Together eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat can have a huge impact on our health and our planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Irma Barreno 6/10/2021 7:52 AMi feel less stressed and more restored in addition to the satisfaction of seeing the growth, development and fruit of that tree
