  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Go Paperless
What do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?

    Amy Bernoske's avatar
    Amy Bernoske 3/31/2021 12:25 PM
I want to prioritize traveling over purchasing material things in my life.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Calculate the carbon footprint of my household
After you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?

    Amy Bernoske's avatar
    Amy Bernoske 3/31/2021 11:54 AM
I could change out more bulbs to LEDs and keep the lights off in areas of my apartment that I'm not in.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Zero-waste Cooking
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

    Amy Bernoske's avatar
    Amy Bernoske 3/31/2021 11:53 AM
Next time I could keep the skin on the vegetables and I could put the tops in a compost bin to donate at my local farmers market.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing & Renewal Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Amy Bernoske's avatar
    Amy Bernoske 3/31/2021 11:50 AM
I've noticed that although scaffolding is all over NYC and can tend to be an eye sore, there are some scaffolds that are futuristic looking or have some sort of creative design that makes it more enjoyable to look it. I also have enjoyed all the small parks hidden throughout the city.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Test Drive an Electric Bike
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you often drive short distances instead of biking or walking? If so, how might incorporating an electric bike into your lifestyle help you make more climate-friendly choices?

    Amy Bernoske's avatar
    Amy Bernoske 3/29/2021 7:54 AM
Having an ebike would decrease the use of unnecessary car rides for short distance trips. It actually may even save time since you don't have to drive around to find parking once you've reached your destination. It also would help boost your mood since riding your bike gets you outside to enjoy the nature!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Amy Bernoske's avatar
    Amy Bernoske 3/29/2021 7:50 AM
Serving smaller portions will also help prevent overeating and weight gain. I've noticed that although using smaller plates and bowls feels like you're not getting enough food, it actually ends up being the proper serving size intended for that meal.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Amy Bernoske's avatar
    Amy Bernoske 3/29/2021 7:47 AM
It has definitely made me understand how big of a difference these three dates mean and will help reduce the amount of food I end up throwing away because I think it has "gone bad".
