Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share β€œyour why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • Today is the last day of EcoChallenge!!!!!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Use Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

When you think about it, if you change your lifestyle just a little bit, it could help reduce climate change, and once you start doing it a lot, you won't even notice it.Β
I fell overwhelmed by the fact that we are killing the earth more and more every day and if we don't do something about it soon, the earth will never be the same.Β
I feel hopeful that a lot of people are trying to stop climate change and some of them are making a big impact on peoples' decisions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

The first step to rehabilitating these degraded peatlands is to restore the water table and rewet the surface area, providing a more fertile base for reforestation to begin.
I can also use less to no plastic bottles and bags, reduce car emissions, less meat-eating.

  • Did you know?
Over the next 20 years, global warming is expected to increase by 0.2 degree per decade

  • Guys we are in first place!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!! πŸ‘πŸ˜„πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜ƒ
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Learn More about Regenerative Agriculture
Clean air, clean water and healthy food are just three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons? How could/does regenerative agriculture positively impact you and your community?

Among other benefits, it reverses climate change by rebuilding soil organic matter and restoring degraded soil biodiversity – resulting in both carbon drawdown and improving the water cycle.Β
By focusing on the soil, regenerative agriculture techniques pull carbon dioxide, one of the most prevalent greenhouse gases, out of the atmosphere. This is a positive impact on the prevalence of climate change. By investing in the soil, regenerative agriculture farmers are helping to make more food on less land to feed more people.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

I have not heard of the term silvopasture before. I learned that some benefits are that silvopasture can provide profitable opportunities for softwood or hardwood timber growers, forest landowners, and livestock producers. It can also help improve the soil and tree nutrition. Grazing controls competing brushy species and reduces fire hazard. Competition between trees is less at the wider spacing employed with silvopasture. The result is greater timber yield.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

"Best by" indicates when a product will be of best flavor or quality. "Sell by" is used by manufacturers to ensure proper turnover throughout the journey of the food product. This helps the food retain a long shelf life even after purchase. "Use by" marks the last date recommended for the use of the product.
It helps me understand when or not to eat the foods and if it is expired.

  • Did you know?
Carbon dioxide constitutes only 3.6 % of total greenhouse gases out of which 0.12% is attributed to human activities

  • Did you know?
Due to the greenhouse effect, the average temperature of the earth is 15 degrees rather than -18 degrees without the greenhouse effect.
