What are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?

Another “R” I can add to my daily practice to reduce waste is to repair broken items. I generally don’t like buying new things when something breaks because it always feels like a hassle, or a waste of money. One example of how I repair items is when I sewed the strap back onto my backpack a few weeks ago. I did this mostly because I did not want to buy a new one and partly because I liked my bag just fine.

Here is one of my random meals I ate today on account of trying to have no waste. This morning I cooked an egg like I usually do and decided to pair it with the zucchini my roommate gave me because she wouldn’t eat it. I also had some grapes from the farmer’s market and an orange on the side. Instead of going out and buying food, I sometimes challenge myself to eat whatever I have, and assortments like this are what I end up with. But this way, I’m reducing food waste and saving time.

What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

I usually use walking as a way to take time to listen to and find more music I enjoy. This way I’m able to get exercise while actively exploring one of my hobbies. Monterey county is much more walkable compared to my hometown because of it infrastructure and weather.

Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

Since livestock is much more difficult and complicated to take care of then agriculture, the price of meat is much higher. This then leads for it to consumed more often by people who can afford it. The carbon footprint of keeping livestock, especially in an industrial sense, is also much higher compared to tending agriculture. In the way that it effects our bodies, meat heavy diets are known to cause heart disease, strokes, and diabetes.

In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

One way that I grew up learning to conserve food is by saving all your vegetable scraps in the freezer. These can then be used later to make your own vegetable stock for soups.
