What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

I think that a sustainable community would have energy sources much like the one on the farms that would supply that ecosystem with energy using the resources that are already there. A sustainable community would utilize its own resources to supply itself with the necessary resources to properly function so as to avoid overusing resources from the environment. I think that more people would need to be educated on how to become self-sufficient because I think that part of the reason that it does not happen is that people do not know how to make it a reality.

The hardest part so far has been throwing away food because I took too much. I usually don't think anything of it and now I have become aware of how often I throw food away.

So far so good, it’s getting easier to keep track of my actions.

So far, the challenge is going pretty well and I have not had too much difficulty completing my tasks. Sometimes, however, I forget to keep track of it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

    Naomi Bradley 2/28/2021 8:05 PM
I would rather use that money on an experience like taking a vacation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Naomi Bradley's avatar
    Naomi Bradley 2/28/2021 8:05 PM
Eating smaller portions will help with calorie intake so that people will not overindulge as easily. With that comes added health benefits and a healthier lifestyle.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing & Renewal Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Naomi Bradley's avatar
    Naomi Bradley 2/28/2021 1:56 PM
When I practice mindfulness I spend more time focused on my food so i’m more likely to finish what I have rather that getting distracted and losing my appetite.

Eating is a very important thing, dordle the way we absorb nutrients from food is also due to a part of our eating habits.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Naomi Bradley's avatar
    Naomi Bradley 2/26/2021 1:59 PM
People in richer countries eat more meat than in other places because they have greater access to it. Eating more meat effects our bodies because we tend to overconsume, so it can lead to gaining weight and unhealthy lifestyles. When more meat is eaten, there needs to be a greater supply of it which involves killing more animals which can be harmful to the species as a whole as well as the chemicals needed to produce the meat and released into the atmosphere negatively contribute to climate change.

More people should be taught how to become self-sufficient, in my opinion, because many people lack the knowledge necessary to make this a reality. quordle
