Regenerative agriculture is "A system of farming principles and practices that increases biodiversity, enriches soils, improves watersheds, and enhances ecosystem services”. In the 21st century for businesses to be profitable, recognizable, and respected, sustainability must be a part of their overall approach. Everyone is aware of Nikes’ motto for the company which is “just do it” businesses nowadays will need to have brand recognition that is that strong, but also let consumers know that sustainability is also a part of the company’s mantra.

Regenerative agriculture increases soil biodiversity, the soil will be more resilient to better stand up to the rapid changes in the climate. In Jamaica we are though at an early age that when we plant crops, it is important to not plant the same fruit of vegetable in the same spot to maintain soil diversity. We know that healthy soils produce nutrient filled crops

In my community we have started a small community garden. We plant tomatoes, eggplants. Peppers and a few other vegetables. At harvest time each household that participates get to take the amount of vegetables their family will need until the next harvest which is usually a week later. This gives us access to fresh vegetables and because we take only what is needed, there is no waste

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

It is a challenging task to use all parts of a vegetable especially if your cooking skills are not the best. One fruit I have taking advantage of and using all parts is the coconut. I enjoy drinking the water. I then blend the meat to extract the cream and the remaining “trash” I use to make cake

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?

I found out that there are no locally grown food offered in my supermarket. I would have to go to whole foods to find locally grown foods
