Recycle Everything I Can

Recycling

Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.

How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?

As we learned in class, eating less mean can cause fewer emissions, and allows for healthier diets that have a positive impact on the environment. Not only have I started eating more fruit but a while ago I stopped eating red meat and honestly I think since I've stopped, every time I eat a burger or a steak or something, it lowkey hurts my stomach... :(

Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

As someone who has ancestors that are part of Native American tribes, I feel that donating to not only my ancestors but our country's ancestors is a huge part of rebuilding our connection to the environment around us. I think balance is essential to sustainability because it allows us to give and take from the environment in a way that helps both us as a society and the planet simultaneously. Finding a fair balance between using resources and giving back to the planet is vital for a better future where we are connected to mother nature.

How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

Recycling has been really easy, what I noticed though, is that a lot of stuff has the recycle symbol but doesn't have the number and I did not grow up in a household that recycled so as I am still learning it can sometimes get confusing. I would hate to recycle something that shouldn't be just because it isn't properly labeled.

For someone who doesn't always eat three meals per day or regularly, trying to eat 4 cups of fruit each day can be challenging but it is fun. I also have been using the seeds of other vegetables to start growing my own which is super exciting. I also have been recycling a lot more and telling those around me the interesting facts about recycling that don't always tell you in classrooms when the conversation of recycling comes up.
