
1) Use by date marks the last day recommended for the use of the product while at peak quality,
2) Sell by date tells the store how long to display the product for sale for inventory management, and
3) Best by date indicates when a product will be of the best flavor or quality.
Knowing the difference between the dates empowers me to make better decisions by not assuming products are spoiled and waste food after passing those dates. I learn that some products are still good to eat after those dates if stored correctly (ex. yogurt, chips, frozen food, etc.)
