I haven’t heard of it before this. I think the biggest advantage is the take away of carbon.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

My vision is people living with no carbon footprint. We need to make people very aware of climate change.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Jackson Chisholm's avatar
    Jackson Chisholm 12/03/2020 9:40 AM
I learned that without family planning or some form of something doing that this world would be way over populated in the near future. Women's lives are harder in other countries outside the united states and it's much harder for the to get the resources they need and deserve.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Jackson Chisholm 12/02/2020 7:47 AM
I’m more cautious about my actions and how they affect the environment.
Knowing that your actions are hurting the world.
Knowing we have some simple solutions to helping our world and people are trying their hardest to make it better.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Jackson Chisholm's avatar
    Jackson Chisholm 12/01/2020 8:04 AM
I can make other people aware of them and tell them how much these ecosystems benefit our environment and the world.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Jackson Chisholm's avatar
    Jackson Chisholm 11/30/2020 8:10 AM
I feel like in my community we are pushing very hard on equality, so everyone is pretty aware about how they affect others. But sexism is always going to exist and possibly in the most it shows up the most in my community is in the workplace.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Jackson Chisholm's avatar
    Jackson Chisholm 11/24/2020 8:00 AM
Palm oil Is in a lot of things so I feel like I have not been helping the deforestation. What I can start doing is being more cautious about the ingredients in the stuff I buy and being more aware of how I can help the environment.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Jackson Chisholm's avatar
    Jackson Chisholm 11/23/2020 8:26 AM
The dates are just a number and basically an estimation, and I can be more of the judge whether the food is good to eat or not.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

My city doesn't have to many super tall buildings, but you could put them on top of the hotels (which are the biggest buildings in Asheville). That would be awesome for those hotels to be able to generate their own energy.
