Olivia's actions
Industry
Invite a friend to calculate the carbon footprint of their household
Individual actions are important, but people and organizations working together can make a real impact. I will share a carbon calculator with a friend and invite them to calculate the carbon footprint of their household.
Transportation
Use Muscle Power
Multiple Transportation Solutions
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Transportation
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 60 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Industry
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bioplastics
I will avoid buying and using 3 single-use plastics and instead replace them with durable options.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Olivia Cooper 11/08/2022 9:03 PMTrying to use the bus or relying on carpooling was tough, but kind of interesting too! I really wish there was more safe walkable areas from the school to places nearby, but I was still able to take 30-60 minute walks to go get food, pickup prescriptions, etc. However, there were parts of walking on roads without sidewalks that had me a bit worried for my safety. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Olivia Cooper 11/08/2022 9:00 PMThis was hard to do every day, but for good reason since I simply was needing to buy things every day. While taking this challenge I did notice more of just how many things are made of plastic that really don't need to be. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Olivia Cooper 10/15/2022 9:53 AMThere are still a lot of areas without any sort of sidewalk and even in areas like Marina and Monterey that tend to be pretty walkable. At least in comparison to my hometown that had huge stretches of areas without sidewalk.
