REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Organic Growing MethodsIt is often said that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” What is your response to that statement?
Adale Davey 12/09/2020 7:05 AMI agree with that, because organic food is a lot harder to make and requires more effort and time, so therefore not everything can be organic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Adale Davey 12/08/2020 7:00 AMI have not heard the term before now, and I think that the biggest advantage is how the environment becomes healthier in that area. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research the Climate Impact of RefrigerantsWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Adale Davey 12/07/2020 11:23 AMI learned that refrigerants have a much larger impact on our climate than what I originally thought. Supermarkets have a larger impact than most places because of the extensive amount of refrigerants they use. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Adale Davey 12/06/2020 3:55 PMServing smaller portions can help humans, because if they want to lose weight or stop gaining so much weight, one of the ways to do that is to eat smaller portions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Adale Davey 12/06/2020 3:54 PMBecause meat is more expensive than other food. Meat has many benefits on the body, but if too much is consumed then it can have negative effects. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Adale Davey 12/04/2020 9:31 AMMy vision would just be the most eco friendly community possible. Every person would have to chip in, because if only a few people help then barely anything will change, like the world we live in today. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Learn about the Need for Family PlanningWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?
Adale Davey 12/03/2020 11:18 AMI learned that family planning is very necessary for not only an individual, but it is also important for our economy and our world. In some places, there is much more people living there than other places, and they cannot afford to have more people in that area, so family planning would be needed more there. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Adale Davey 12/02/2020 11:22 AMAfter learning about the seriousness of the environmental challenges, I have started thinking about what I do that will make an impact in our world. It is just overwhelming to think about how we are destroying this planet so quickly even though we are the problem and we cannot find a solution. I feel hopeful because in the past year some people are starting to understand what is truly happening to our planet, so in the future if we work together we can solve this. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Adale Davey 12/01/2020 7:48 AMThe first step to protecting peat lands is to figure out our impact on the environment and finding more energy efficient methods. An example is to invest in solar panels, because they generate electricity without harming the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Research Barriers to Participation and RepresentationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Adale Davey 11/30/2020 1:06 PMIn my community, we have eliminated many of the problems with women's rights than in other areas. There are still a few standing problems, such as how a women's voice is not heard as much as a mans voice in a society, and worldwide women make less money than men.
