Paula Day 7/16/2020 8:54 AMThe city of Dallas recently launched a comprehensive emissions reduction plan. During the planning process, I participated in multiple community outreach sessions to provide feedback on the plan and contacted city officials to encourage them to adopt the plan. Two of my areas of focus were improving walkability in the city and updating our bus routes to improve access across the city. Both of these items are addressed in the plan. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Paula Day 6/05/2020 6:39 AMI switched to use of a French Press for making coffee at home - no filter required - only coffee and water! I take re-usable bags to the grocery store including fruit/vegetable bags. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy CreditsYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Paula Day 6/03/2020 10:20 AMI use my Nest thermostats to reduce electricity usage. They are both programmed to go to Eco temperatures when we are away (during non-COVID times) or at night. I read my monthly report to see how my usage compares to other Nest users in my zip code. I also use clothing drying racks to reduce use of the dryer. I use the setting on my washer for cold water only.
