Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Animal Products
Plant-Rich Diets
I will enjoy 2 meatless or vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Keep Track of Wasted Food
Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Drawdown Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.
Participant Feed

Cienna De Leon 4/24/2023 10:51 PMI usually don't clean out my cabinet but today I did and I had to throw out a few things that went bad. I usually try to make the most out of refrigerated food, but I just forget about the food in the back of my cabinet. -
Cienna De Leon 4/17/2023 4:22 PMI have a note in my Iphone that tracks the vegetarian meals that I eat and the trash that I have thrown away. I think it really helps with times that I forget to log in and mark things. -
Cienna De Leon 4/17/2023 4:20 PMI have noticed that I really throw away a lot more than I thought I did. Most of it is leftovers that go bad because I try not to waste any ingredients that I buy. -
Cienna De Leon 4/12/2023 5:24 PMToday I made sure that from now on, I will mainly be buying containers or drinks with glass packaging. Mainly because it is a lot easier and safer to recycle. -
Cienna De Leon 4/12/2023 5:22 PMFor one of my challenges, I am focusing on recycling and today I did a bit of research on what is recyclable in my community. I found a good website that explains the rules for Monterey County. https://whatgoeswhere.info/ -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Cienna De Leon 4/12/2023 5:20 PMI would probably spend that kind of money on more eco friendly products. I know that most eco friendly products usually cost a lot more than non eco friendly ones -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Cienna De Leon 4/05/2023 5:33 PMI think people consider meat to sometimes be a luxury. Especially high end kinds. I personally do not really enjoy red meat and only really eat chicken when I feel like I am not eating enough protein. However, I understand that protein could be incorporated in different ways. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Cienna De Leon 4/05/2023 5:31 PMI think I could really learn more about recycling. Right now I understand the numbers on plastic packaging, but as far as cleaning and sorting those products, I could learn more. As far as refusing goes, I plan on now bringing my own Tupperware whenever I go out to eat and have leftovers to reduce my single use plastic use. -
Cienna De Leon 4/05/2023 5:29 PMFor the recycling challenge, it was really interesting to see specifics like cleaning food packaging with a spatula in order to not waste any water. I never really thought about details like that. -
Cienna De Leon 4/05/2023 5:25 PMI am really excited to start focusing more on my diet and specifically reducing meat in my diet. I have never done something like this before but I think I can stick to it.
