  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Ruby Dickson's avatar
    Ruby Dickson 12/08/2020 6:13 PM

I have never heard about this before. I think the biggest advantage is the improvement of the animals and land, health and productivity.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Learn about the impact of old refrigerants
Why are old refrigerant gases so harmful to our environment?

    Ruby Dickson's avatar
    Ruby Dickson 12/07/2020 5:05 PM
Because they are bad for the ozone particles and thin the ozone layer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Ruby Dickson's avatar
    Ruby Dickson 12/04/2020 9:22 AM
Where everyone is mindful of what they are doing and help to create less greenhouse gases. Like using environmentally friendly products, and cars. Using sustainable energy, and eating less meat.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Ruby Dickson's avatar
    Ruby Dickson 12/03/2020 4:08 PM
I learned that the population of the Earth affects how well it does and the climate change. I also learned that many people don’t have the resources they need and should have. Women and girls are vital to the process of limiting greenhouse gases and reducing climate change.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Ruby Dickson's avatar
    Ruby Dickson 12/02/2020 6:00 PM
I think more about what products I’m using and where they come from. I am also trying to use products that aren’t as harmful to the environment. The amount of mining and trash(landfill amount) that is happening. That there is a solution and even though it may take a while if we work together we can fix this.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Ruby Dickson's avatar
    Ruby Dickson 12/01/2020 3:14 PM
Limit or cut out the amount of palm oil and paper products I use. And tell other people about the importance of peatlands and what they do.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Ruby Dickson's avatar
    Ruby Dickson 11/30/2020 12:48 PM

The rise of domestic abuse due to covid and the gender pay gap. This also affects women in the political scheme and limits the amount of women who have political jobs.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Ruby Dickson's avatar
    Ruby Dickson 11/29/2020 12:04 PM
I don't have to wash as many plates and bowls and therefore don't use as much water.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing & Renewal Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Ruby Dickson's avatar

I feel less stressed and can focus more on what I'm doing and spend time with my family
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Ruby Dickson 11/29/2020 12:03 PM
It lowers my carbon footprint and also makes me feel better about what I'm eating
