Victoria's actions
Health and Education
Host a Film Screening
Health and Education
I will host a virtual film screening and discussion about women's and gender equality issues.
Industry
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bioplastics
I will avoid buying and using 1 single-use plastics and instead replace them with durable options.
Transportation
Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Electric Cars, Hybrid Cars
I will spend at least 75 minutes researching and weighing my options to see if a hybrid or electric vehicle makes sense for my lifestyle.
Industry
Find a Local Climate-Friendly Supermarket
Refrigerant Management
I will explore the interactive map in the links below to find a supermarket that does not use HFC refrigerants near my home.
Buildings
Donate
Improved Clean Cookstoves
I will donate to nonprofits that install clean cookstoves in low-income countries.
Buildings
Online Energy Audit
Multiple Solutions
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Buildings
Tour a Green Roof
Green and Cool Roofs
I will set up a visit or a virtual tour of a green roof in my city, and ask about the codes and process for installing a green roof.
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Learn about Biochar
Biochar Production
I will spend 45 minute(s) learning about biochar and how it can help sequester carbon.
Health and Education
Connect With A Nonprofit
Health and Education
I will connect with a local nonprofit working on issues affecting women, girls, and/or trans/nonbinary people in my community, and find out how I can get involved or become a member.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 50 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Keep Track of Wasted Food
Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Drawdown Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.
Transportation
Eco-Friendly Car
I will purchase a high fuel efficiency vehicle with an EPA Rating of 7 or higher. Car exhaust makes up for 1/5th of all US emissions each year. Transitioning to a sustainable means of transportation is an important way in which we may meaningfully reduce our personal carbon footprint. This initiative is met by purchasing a vehicle with an EPA Fuel Economy score of 7 or higher. This initiative may be redeemed once every 5 years and must be pre-approved by Dr. Nadereh. Information about testing methods and specific models can be found at FuelEconomy.gov.
Action Track: Healing & Renewal
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & RenewalMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Victoria Dubeau 3/29/2021 8:51 AMEating mindfully without distractions is more challenging than expected. When practicing mindfulness, I am able to enjoy the flavors in the food I am eating and I can tell when I am getting full. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhat are the most pressing issues for women, girls, and trans/nonbinary people in your community?
Victoria Dubeau 3/24/2021 11:48 AMWomen, girls, and trans/nonbinary people are faced with lack of equity in terms of societal expectations, pay, and career opportunities. Unfortunately women have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19 and forced to leave the workplace as a result of needing to care for their families on a full-time basis.
I recently joined a non-profit, The Niles Foundation, as a volunteer to help with their mission of providing equity to youth and women in our community while also combatting environmental injustice and sustainability themes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Victoria Dubeau 3/23/2021 3:45 PMI've been saving my vegetable scraps in the freezer this month to make my own vegetable broth. Not only is it a cheap, plastic free alternative to buying boxed or canned vegetable broth, its healthier and free of preservatives or extra salt! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?
Victoria Dubeau 3/04/2021 11:15 AMThe Whole Foods on Pico in Santa Monica is considered a HFC-Free or Chill Platinum grocery store! This is about a 10 minute drive from my current location, but not my closest or preferred supermarket. I will visit and support this Whole Foods when I can, and lobby/encourage my local supermarket to reduce and eventually phase out their HFC Refrigerants-
