  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Sarah Duffer 12/13/2021 7:54 AM
A sustainable community, in my opinion, is one where all people have access to safe, healthy, affordable food and energy. People have access to quality, reliable public transportation and health care. People have access to free education and job training.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

I will continue to choose share grown coffee and chocolate and reduce the amount of packaged junk food I eat (it has palm oil in it). I will select paper that has a post-consumer content (it’s been recycled).

Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Sarah Duffer 11/30/2020 5:18 AM
Some of the barriers that exist to women’s equal participation and representation in my community are the fact that Asheville has a service-based economy. Low skilled, low wage labor is found in restaurants, hotel industry, and the hospital.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

I can use labels to make smarter consumer decisions and try to reduce my consumption of animals and animal products.

I hope to waste less food now that I know how to read the labels.
