REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Research and Advocate for High-Speed RailWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?
William Euler 12/10/2020 12:32 AMThe factors that influence my choice of transportation are cost, convenience, and time. Driving is just much better in all 3 of these categories at the moment. Especially with the pandemic when I don't want to be on public transport with many other people. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
William Euler 12/10/2020 12:14 AMI have never heard of the term silvopasture before now, and now that I have learned more about it, I think that it has a lot of very big advantages. One is how silvopasture helps keep the land more resilient as the climate continues to change, and also how the trees can help produce extra profit. The ecological impact is also a massive advantage. I think the biggest is how it helps keep the animals healthier, and produce more product -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research the Climate Impact of RefrigerantsWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
William Euler 12/09/2020 11:49 PMI learned that refrigerants are very harmful to the environment. I didn't know that they were this destructive to the ozone layer. I also didn't even know what CFCs or HCFCs were. I believe that supermarkets contribute to this impact because they make refrigerators and other appliances so much more accessible. It makes us focus more on getting the new product rather than properly disposing of the old product. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Share Bioplastic Disposal TipsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
William Euler 12/09/2020 11:00 PMI think I am most concerned about the ungodly amount of plastic that we have produced and continue to produce. I am shocked at how we have created so much waste that will just sit for thousands of years without decomposing. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
William Euler 12/09/2020 10:27 PMMy vision of a sustainable community includes people who grow their own food, and are self-efficient, as well as being a carbon sink, where more carbon is consumed than produced. Methane digesters are good for this because they take something harmful and transform it into something beneficial. In order to achieve a sustainable society, we would have to change our whole way of thinking. This includes us as a population begening to prioritizing the planet instead of money. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Learn about the Need for Family PlanningWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?
William Euler 12/09/2020 9:58 PMI learned that family planning is essential in order to continue the fight flor gender equality, I also learned that family planning will help stop global warming, because if people make the choice to have less kids, then that means less people to create climate change. There are many different thoughts around family planning in different places, and access to contraceptives differs around the globe. This means that every place is in a different place in working towards normalizing family planning. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
William Euler 12/09/2020 5:59 PM1. I have noticed that as I learn more about our planet, the more conscious I am about decisions that will affect the environment. Whenever I throw stuff away, I am conscious of the effect that it will have on my environment. I also have been checking on the bottoms of plastics to see if I can recycle them. I have just overall been much more conscious about the decisions I make.
2. I sometimes get overwhelmed when all of the blame is put on the individual for issues relating to climate change. I just think that we need to stop making people feel as though climate change is their fault personally when really the major corporations are at fault.
3. I feel hopeful whenever I learn about conservation efforts, and when I learn about big corporations really trying to make a difference. When I see how hard people are trying to keep our planet alive I feel hopeful. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
William Euler 12/07/2020 11:16 PMIn order to protect peatlands, even when I live far away from them, I can alter my purchasing in order to buy items from companies that don't destroy peatlands. I will start to do more research on my products to make sure they are sustainably grown. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Research Barriers to Participation and RepresentationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
William Euler 12/07/2020 10:14 PMIn my community I have noticed that there is a lot of prejudice against women just in our school. Through the unfair dress code, as well as just overall sexism I have noticed from both staff and students. I have seen people make inappropriate remarks and jokes. This is a barrier to women everywhere, because if women aren't being supported, then we cant advance as a society. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Explore Other Food, Agriculture, and Land Use SolutionsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
William Euler 11/27/2020 10:54 PMI think overall I am very aware about how my diet impacts deforestation, and try to tailor my diet to be most eco-friendly. I try to buy products that I know are eco-friendly and are locally grown. I can also begin to buy coffee and chocolate that are rainforest alliance certified and shade grown.
