Emma Fake 5/01/2020 2:09 PMMy one time challenge was a success because I learned a lot about fast fashion. Fast fashion is when brands copy runway looks as quickly as possible to sell in stores. These clothes are typically low quality, however there are a lot of other problems that come with fast fashion. It comes with a lot of environmental problems and human rights violations. I've started to be more conscientious about what and who I'm buying from. I bought a lot of fast fashion because it was cheap, but I never thought about why it was so cheap. I've attempted to reuse clothing more and thrift clothes rather than buy new. This being somewhat in style has helped too. A lot of time reused clothing is inexpensive as well. I've also tried to reuse some of my clothes that are out of style now and make it into something I would wear now. The pictures are of some pants I haven't worn in year cut into shorts that I wear a lot now.

Emma Fake 5/01/2020 1:49 PMI have overall reduced my portions and it's actually gotten easier as I went along! It's been a lot healthier for me too. I have also reduced a lot of food waste by just not over ordering or getting more on my plate than I can. I'm going to try to continue this challenge throughout the summer and try to get my friends to do it as well! -
Emma Fake 4/27/2020 12:53 PMTo reduce food waste, I've been making more trips to the grocery store. This is because when I buy everything at once, I end up having stuff go bad before I eat it. I've also been having to plan meals out better than before to try to reduce food waste. -
Emma Fake 4/26/2020 2:51 PMSince moving home, it has been a bit harder to portion control because my family is providing the food. When I was in Knoxville, I was basically a broke college student so it was easier for me to buy less food and only when I needed to. Now, I've had to watch myself extra to make sure I'm adhering to my challenge. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Emma Fake 4/26/2020 2:48 PMThere are lots of ways to express yourself other than fast fashion. Thrifting can be a great option in repurposing used clothes. I have also seen lots of people dye, cut, or reuse their own clothes to make the clothes look completely different instead of throwing them away. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Emma Fake 4/26/2020 2:43 PMAside from environmental benefits, eating smaller portions (in moderation) is much healthier for you. It keeps you from overeating and portion control can help you balance nutrition. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Emma Fake 3/22/2020 5:46 PMNow that I am living at home, I've started taking my dog for a daily walk and I've realized how much easier it is in Knoxville or on campus to walk where there is sidewalks everywhere. In my neighborhood there is no sidewalks or even shoulders on the roads, this makes it difficult to share the road with cars and hard to make my dog stay out of the middle of the road.. On the other hand, there is significantly less traffic than in Knoxville. The photos are of my dog today when I moved all my things home from my dorms. Then the other two are from our walk today in my neighborhood.
