Jade Flores 11/09/2022 11:37 PMThis morning when I was getting starbucks I brought my own reusable cup so I didn't have to waste a plastic one from the store and I got a discount for bringing my own cup in. I thought this was really interesting because it promotes people to use less plastic and thats hard to find in many big food/coffee chains. Many people don't know about this but it should be promoted more. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Jade Flores 11/09/2022 11:33 PMEating more meat, specifically red meat, increases greenhouse gas emissions and puts a strain on the planet in terms of livestock needing space to live which adds to deforestation, food to eat, and water to consume/for the crops for livestock. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 2How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Jade Flores 11/09/2022 11:29 PMIt was very difficult to find foods but specifically snacks that don't have palm oil in them so I started eating more fruits instead of like chips or candy which has been more filling honestly. I've been eating a lot of persimmons because they're in season right now. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Jade Flores 11/03/2022 8:14 PMI used to use a lot of plastic utensils when eating out or even on campus and would use a lot of plastic bags when shopping but now I carry around reusable bags in my car/bag and always have reusable bamboo utensils on me. -
Jade Flores 11/02/2022 4:57 PMI went to an edible garden today to volunteer and I spent the day pulling dried corn husks out of the ground and weeding. I saw so many insects, letting me know they don't use pesticides. I saw lady bugs, spiders, roly polys, snails, and even a frog. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Tour a Green RoofWhat did you learn on your green roof tour?
Jade Flores 11/02/2022 4:54 PMThey help with the albedo effect on buildings, if the roof if dark colored then the inside of the building tends to be more warm because it absorbs more heat but with the green roof it deflects more light and people don't need to use as much AC.-
Mason Brown 11/08/2022 2:02 PMImagine how cool it would be if more buildings initiated projects to have green roofs, I think it would help not only in cooling down buildings but also aesthetically would make buildings look much less dull.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Jade Flores 11/01/2022 7:41 PMI did not hear about it before this challenge but It was really interesting to learn about. The biggest advantage is carbon sequestering and methane sequestering. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Calculate the carbon footprint of my householdAfter you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?
Jade Flores 11/01/2022 7:27 PMYes the website I used to calculate my carbon footprint told me ways I could make a difference and gave me new solutions I had not heard of before. It was really interesting to see what I got and how I could improve. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Organic Growing MethodsIt is often said that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” What is your response to that statement?
Jade Flores 10/19/2022 8:40 PMIf everyone has their own garden or a shared garden in the community then you can feed everyone. While it may seem more convenient to just go to the store and buy what you want, it's better on the planet and local farmers to eat locally grown food. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Jade Flores 10/13/2022 4:20 PMI love supporting local farmers and their products always taste better, more fresh, and very fulfilling.
