Gisela's actions
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Iter Solaris
Following “The Journey of the Sun” helping Gaia with one action or another every day. When the sun rises in the morning forming a thought for action for that day, and when the sun goes down in the evening, meditating on a task well done, ignored, postponed, or just forgotten. Some things are repetitive, others are invented or taken on for one day. Vegan meals, composting, planting, learning, discussing, writing about things that are important for now and to assure a future for our children and grandchildren.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Composting
Composting, Reduced Food Waste
I will start a compost bin where I live.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Animal Products
Plant-Rich Diets

Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 30 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Gisela Foster 11/10/2020 12:21 PMThe biggest advantage, in my eyes, is improvement in the treatment of animals and, at the same time, increasing tree planting if this happens in a pasture that previously did not include trees. A win-win situation. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Gisela Foster 11/09/2020 4:47 PMIn eating mostly plant based food, some of it grown by friends, I am not depending on deforestation to feed my needs.
It would even be better if I could afford going to the Farmers’ Market, but my limited income does not allow for higher prices. May e. Ext spring I can grow some items in my small area here. -
Gisela Foster 11/09/2020 1:28 AMFinished my edX course on Climate Change today. This was fast and rather easy. I did learn a bit about how to explain Climate Change to both, people who believe it is man made and those who believe it is a natural occurrence. But there were no graded tests, only a verification check for completion of each session. O( well! What’s next? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Gisela Foster 11/09/2020 1:22 AMI use a walker and find lots of obstacles in the road and on sidewalks.
Some things can’t be changed, such as the run-off tilt at the edges of a road, or the slants of sidewalks in front of driveways. But there are others, like pot holes, raised sidewalks due to tree roots, shrubs that need trimming, rocks or debris from trees - those could be helped with a street sweeper or better gardening, or a make-over for pot holes.
I have called and emailed city officials about pot holes and raised sidewalks and have had some success in getting these taken care of. -
Gisela Foster 11/08/2020 1:16 PM1. Potato soup with carrots, spinach, and lentils -
Gisela Foster 11/08/2020 9:51 AMDe ided to work on my latest bear for the Mother Bear Project today. Happy children make for a better future. And there are still a few loose ends to weave in before it can get stuffed. This might not be your ordinary Climate Change action, but for me it is meditation and therefore it brings me to the NOW and helps Gaia to keep good karma while we struggle to get the rest done. -
Gisela Foster 11/07/2020 7:02 PMMade persimmon bread today with three of the persimmons my daughter brought over.
Cooked a vegan soup - potato soup with spinach and carrots and the last of red lentils. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Gisela Foster 11/07/2020 11:49 AMI try to use all food purchased. Most of my composting right now uses peels from potatoes, apples, bananas, persimmons, cucumbers, avocados and various parts that need to be discarded due to bruising or small rot. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Gisela Foster 11/06/2020 8:18 PMThe meat industry in rich countries has a strong influence on the public. But eating meat not only hurts animals, it contributes to greenhouse gases and therefore to climate change. Besides, healthy living does not depend on meat eating. Proteins can be found in plants.
