Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

When I am on my phone I am not truly appreciating the food and flavors I am lucky enough to be eating. I also am not truly aware of the amount I am eating when distracted. When I am practicing mindfulness I am more aware of the intake and I tend to eat more nutritious meals considering I am viewing it as fuel and not just food.

I will reuse the plastics and cardboard boxes given to me from the items bought at the grocery store. I will also repurpose those containers to store different foods or items in them. I will reduce the amount of plastics bought by buying different items and storing them in the plastics I already have at home.

What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I do tend to use single- use coffee cups if I go to starbucks so instead I have been making my coffee at home in a mug or a travel mug made of metal. I also bought metal straws to replace the plastic straw use. Plastic bags have been cut down since we no longer receive them at the grocery store, so I use my lunch box to carry my meals to work. Also, instead of using vegetable bags to bring with me to work, i put my snacks in reusable containers and wash them when I get home.

After you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?

Myself and my mom have been car pooling more to the grocery store or out to dinner rather than meeting there in separate cars. We also have been turning off more lights to save electricity and saving water by turning it off when brushing our teeth. These different choices are small but overall the larger impact it will have on saved resources will be large.

Eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affects myself buy fueling my body with clean meals and snacks versus processed foods that are easier to access. It affects other people by myself being in a better mood due to having more energy and just overall feeling better in hopes to radiate off others around me. It affects our planet by decreasing the carbon footprint by eating less meat and ingesting more vegetables and fruits which helps decrease the waste of them, if they weren't purchased and eaten.
