REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Catherine Funes 3/28/2022 8:53 PMSeeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, and financial capital are very important resources to take into consideration when one is reducing food waste. In my opinion, I believe water waste motivates me to continue reducing food waste. As human beings, we need water and food to survive. One can survive without food for about two months. However, one can only survive without water for about four to eight days. Thus, water is an important resource for survival. There are about 1.1 billion of people who do not have access to water. Not only are we wasting water from food waste, we are decreasing the opportunity for people to get access to water. Additionally, because food waste produces methane, it is one of the reason why pollution has been increasing. As a result, body of fresh water are becoming polluted and drying up; thus, there is an increases in the lack of access to water. Not only will the ecosystem be destroy, humans life span will shorten. If we learn to reduce food waste, we are preventing water from becoming scarce. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Catherine Funes 3/28/2022 8:27 PMOne of the simple way to express one's individuality without buying clothes is to upcycle them. Although it may take time, the outcome of the process will be worth it. One can take one piece of clothing item and make it into a hat, a shirt, hair ties, shorts, shirts, scarf, and etc. One can even adjust based on cultural pieces such as hijab. The options are endless. One can dye the item or add accessories for a brand new look. Additionally, one can create clothing items for children and babies. Once one is no longer interested in that item, they can combine other clothing items to change the style. As a result, one will not be wasting clothing materials. Especially the items that release toxins in the air. What my family does is that we send our clothes to my grandma's country. There they upcycle the clothes and distribute them to people who are in need. It is a pretty cool process if I say so myself!
