I enjoy the walk to class in the morning, and going about my everyday life, yet I always find myself with a recurring issue. Im always so thirsty, but carrying a reusable bottle around with me everywhere is exhausting at times. There are days that I like to not have anything on me except a few essentials, but on days where I have my bag filled with stuff and I have to carry that all day, adding a bottle can seem like an annoying thing to pack at times. I also like to refrain from consuming too many water bottles, so I end up being thirsty most of the day. I understand the importance of having reusable items and utensils, and I do find myself enjoying using metal straws or my Akatsuki chop sticks, but I cant get myself to want to carry a water bottle all day. It might just be insomnia and 8 AM thoughts though, so I will carry my bottle around today, hydrate, and wait and see how it feels. Happy Tuesday!

Hi Sergio! This is a relatable post and I'm glad that you were able to hydrate today. I definitely recommend getting a backpack with side pockets for bottles, it has helped me a lot to remember that I even have a water bottle. I also needed the reminder to use reusable utensils so thank you for that. I hope you also had a happy Tuesday!

I feel it is important to make more eco-friendly choices in our everyday lives to improve the spaces we inhabit. We tend to forget at times to "respect the pad" or respect our everyday spaces. I find when I make smarter choices, I increase my own efficiency in the process and leave less for myself to run around fixing later. Simple habits like turning off our lights when we leave a room, shutting down appliances, and being mindful of our energy use are all ways we can make an indirect effect in our lives as well. Im glad we started learning about these issues in our youth, and can mindfully make smarter choices to take care of our environment. As we grow, we will be the generation leading the world, and getting the idea in our heads now that we need to value our precious resources will transcend generations to come.

I remember growing up in my strict latino household. I did not really understand many of the rules, like not leaving water on if we aren't using it, only turning the AC on after it reaches a certain number of degrees, turning off lights when we aren't using them and things of this nature. Once I became older though, and seeing the amount of waste and the impact we humans have made, I feel kind of grossed out by just how much I take energy for granted. There now exists a certain level of guilt that I am a part of the problem when it comes to the climate crisis, and my feeling of not being any better than those videos we see of factories pumping black smoke into the air. Despite this, I still try to maintain my green practices, like conserving water, shutting off unneeded lights, walk rather than moving my car, and I believe its these little things that add up. From my research on what makes humans so bad for the environment, its evident that our inability to moderate our energy use it a big part of what makes our emissions levels what they are. Thus, when I decide to walk and be late for class rather than drive my car, I feel like I made a positive contribution and it motivates me to continue on this path on electronic mediation.

Hi Sergio! Being aware of one's energy consumption and impact on the environment is great! In an individual sense, it seems like our energy consumption does not have that large of an impact. But if everybody lived their life with the idea that their consumption has no influence on the environment then the energy consumption of society would be astronomical, which it is. I agree with your comment on how a big issue is society's difficulty with moderation which is apparent on multiple levels. I am happy to hear that you are motivated and will continue to work toward electronic mediation!

Since cracking my head open in a skateboard accident, I have found walking to be much more fulfilling. Not only that, I decided this was a better time than ever to go to a hospital and get some world class medical treatment. The staples in my head were a time of reflection most definitely. It got me thinking about my own plans, as a premed and aspiring to run a hospital in my hometown area. In my mind, I imagine this hospital running on clean energy, having most or close to all of its energy needs from a clean grid. Learning and reading more about renewable energy for the research project has given me a more knowledgeable look into what this will require, and the feasibility of an energy transition in todays day and age. It gets my mind wondering about policy changes that will be needed to be enacted to have these goals met. I believe one of the primary steps in working towards a green future is education, learning how systems of green energy currently run, the drawbacks of these forms of energy, and the potential innovations that will develop over time. And I was thinking about all this, while getting my head stapled (impending doom seems to help pain tolerance apparently, results may vary)

That's a crazy experience Sergio! I'm glad you're doing better now but it's sadly not the first time I've heard of people getting severely hurt while either skateboarding or while riding an electric scooter to class. Last year a good friend of mine broke her jaw and also had to get staples during treatment. It always scares me when I see people going fast on scooters because it's so easy to get hurt on them. I always try to walk to class or to the grocery store as they're relatively close to campus. It's really cool to hear about the plans you have for the future, they all sound like they are going to be incredible impactful for your hometown!!

In my daily effort of trying to be more green, I was late for work today because I decided to walk the mountainous steps from Weyburn to campus rather than taking a bird. I've also neglected from moving my car unless its to avoid getting a ticket so I've essentially been a walking machine as of late. Waking up a bit earlier for my already early classes every day has, on the bright side, allowed me to get a headstart on my day early. Also unplugging during my daily walk, as I try to refrain from listening to music or scrolling on a feed mindlessly, I can enjoy the fresh air better, see the sky get brighter and feel the cool air. Waking up to cold air was always a dream growing up in a desert, and now it seems as though I take it for granted at times. A morning walk to get the day started has its undeniable benefits as does disconnecting from our electronic world from time to time. We spend most of our lives behind a screen, and driving in a hurry to get to one place or another. If anything, just for today, try to take a few minutes to walk around and feel the air, or simply sit and watch the environment and the elements give you a show.

I really appreciate your effort to take in your surroundings Sergio. After reading what you said, I can recall a time where I would literally scroll on Twitter on my way to class. Head down and everything. I agree with what Sydney said too in how I scroll on my phone to make the walk feel faster. That is not being mindful of me. If I take the time to appreciate the beautiful environment at UCLA, like you are, maybe I will create a better mindset when walking. That can make me more inclined to walk to places, rather than using my car. I get to exercise, be mindful, and reduce my carbon footprint!

Hi Sergio, I really relate to this, because whenever I walk to school, which is normally every weekday, I notice that I instinctively pop in my headphones and listen to music as well as check my phone every once in a while, in an effort to make the walk feel faster. But, I tried it out today, for an early morning class, and I found that it made me feel less tired, and I really enjoyed it! I normally dread mornings, but doing something that I have fun with first thing in the morning, like taking a walk, has started to make me appreciate them more.
