REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Ava Goddard 5/26/2020 9:45 AMMy vision of a sustainable community is that everyone agrees on a certain way to live with renewable products and ways for people to work together in sustainable ways. What would need to change firstly is for everyone to agree. It is very hard for everyone to agree so that would be the first thing that would need to change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Learn about the Need for Family PlanningWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?
Ava Goddard 5/22/2020 9:51 AMOne thing I learned is "in developing regions an estimated 232 million women who want to avoid pregnancies are not using safe and effective family planning methods for reasons ranging from lack of access to information or services to lack of support from their partners or communities." From the United Nations Website For Family Planning. The needs I think that compare different people is how much money you have, and how much room you have in your home, and how many kids you want to have. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Ava Goddard 5/20/2020 9:51 AMWhat I could do is try and use less products that have palm oil, pulp, or paper. I could find some kind of alternative and tell people if I felt like it so then we could make a big impact on places farther away. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Research and Advocate for High-Speed RailWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?
Ava Goddard 5/18/2020 10:13 AMSome factors that influence my chocie of transportation are how safe it is, how much anxiety it will cause if it causes any, how convineient it is, and probably cost. What would have to change is maybe the safeness of it and make sure it isn't to dangerous and cost and convienience. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Share Bioplastic Disposal TipsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Ava Goddard 5/15/2020 7:59 AMWhat concerns me the most is that some of these beautiful places won’t be around in the future and that we can’t fix damage that has already been done. Locally, I guess would be that there won’t be enough room in Asheville for everyone to live here so we have to destroy more beautiful nature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Ava Goddard 5/13/2020 8:46 AMThe impact it has is that it makes me want to do something but I don’t know what I would do. It makes me think that we are bad humans for hurting such beautiful places. The part about us hurting beautiful places and not being able to fix it. What makes me hopeful is that we are starting and trying to fix the places that we have destroyed and trying to make it better. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Properly Dispose of RefrigerantsHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Ava Goddard 5/11/2020 12:39 PMI honestly don't talk about climate change that often because I don't like talking about it unless it has to do with school. But I guess I think that climate change is not good at all and wish we could do something about it at a faster rate than we are now. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Ava Goddard 5/10/2020 11:53 AMI feel like they may eat more meat in richer countries because maybe it costs more to make/have more meat. Also, maybe in less wealthy countries they treasure the meat and treasure the animals. Eating more meat affects our bodies by making you have more of a chance of having different diseases and health problems. It can have many different effects on everyone, so you don't really know what could happen. On the planet, it can cause pollution in the environment -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Ava Goddard 5/09/2020 4:28 PMA benefit of eating/serving smaller portions is you end up eating less food so you don't get to full to the point of where you're sick or bloated. Also, if you want for you have to get up and get it so it forces you to move. And it could help you maintain a healthy weight for yourself and help digest food easier. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Ava Goddard 5/08/2020 9:56 AMMy diet is contributing to deforestation because I eat a lot of dairy products and some eggs but not much, mostly if it’s in something. What I could do to decrease my negative impact would be to find a substitute of some sort. Or just cut down on how much dairy I eat.
