  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Conduct Virtual Meetings
How can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?

    Meg Gostanian's avatar
    Meg Gostanian 4/13/2023 8:26 AM
My main frustration with zoom meetings is the lack of focus, so I really think it should be required for everyone to have their cameras on just to show respect for everyone else there. Being able to see everyone's faces looking at their screens makes a big difference for the speaker feeling heard
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Choose Recycled Paper
Good job on choosing recycled paper! How can you take your action a step further?

    Meg Gostanian's avatar
    Meg Gostanian 4/13/2023 8:24 AM
My first step I really need to take is using up all the paper that I own. I haven't bought paper my entire life because my family has had such a huge amount stocked up my entire life and we've just been digging at it all these years. Now that I think about it, I probably won't have to buy recycled paper because I will never run out of paper.

      Jojo Cook 4/13/2023 9:25 AM
I have this exact same problem -- I've ended up with so many old newspapers and grocery ads I almost have to go out of my way to find ways to use them (mostly lining tables + floors for random painting projects at this point)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing & Renewal More Fruits And Veggies
How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?

    Meg Gostanian's avatar
    Meg Gostanian 4/13/2023 8:21 AM
Eating fruits and vegetables is a lot more energy efficient for our planet. If everyone switched over, food would be so abundant across the world we would be able to share. And on that note, food would be so much cheaper for consumers.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Meg Gostanian's avatar
    Meg Gostanian 4/13/2023 8:19 AM
I don't think I noticed all the flowers around here last year, so that's been a nice part of my walks. This campus drives me absolutely insane trying to get from one area to another. Weaving between all the freshmen dorms is the bane of my existence. I would love to try getting a bike for next semester because some days walking takes a lot longer than I want it to be
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Try Carpooling
List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

    Meg Gostanian's avatar
    Meg Gostanian 4/13/2023 8:13 AM
I can't think of a single place that I go to alone because my roommates and I are always on the same schedules, so there's no reason to go anywhere without offering and they never refuse because it's a free ride
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Practice the 5 R's
What are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?

    Meg Gostanian's avatar
    Meg Gostanian 4/13/2023 8:11 AM
The "refuse" is my biggest struggle with this challenge. I feel pretty obligated to use up my meal plan since it's already been paid for, so I always try to buy campus food, which isn't very waste friendly compared to me just making my own food
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Zero-waste Cooking
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

    Meg Gostanian's avatar
    Meg Gostanian 4/13/2023 8:09 AM
My favorite food to buy/cook in bulk that doesn't waste anything is potatoes. There is no reason why any part of a good potato should be wasted, so I'm able to get everything out of the product. If there are foods that I am not sure how to use to the fullest extent then I don't typically purchase them
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Meg Gostanian's avatar
    Meg Gostanian 4/13/2023 8:06 AM
I grew up not allowed to waste anything, so when I get too much food I feel obligated to finish it, which is really hard most of the time. With this challenge I've come very accustomed to just getting up to get more food if I'm still hungry and it makes the end of meals more enjoyable
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Meg Gostanian's avatar
    Meg Gostanian 4/13/2023 8:04 AM
Meat really is a luxury with all the resources it consumes. It isn't something everyone needs on a daily basis, which is the culture around meat for most of America
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing & Renewal Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Meg Gostanian's avatar
    Meg Gostanian 4/13/2023 8:02 AM
I feel like my breathing overall is better when I'm not distractedly eating food. I'm not rushing a bite so I can look back up to see what I missed for a half second on the tv
