Jonathan's actions
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Keep Track of Wasted Food
Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Drawdown Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.
Electricity
Encourage my company and/or organization to measure and manage their carbon footprint
Organizations have a responsibility to make sustainable business decisions. To understand how to improve sustainable practices, it’s important to start with understanding the current impact. I will share the Tradewater Business Carbon Calculator with my organization.
Transportation
Learn about Carbon Offsets
I will visit Tradewater’s website to learn more about carbon offsets, and why they are a necessary solution in combating a climate crisis.
Land Sinks
Explore My Area
Sometimes protecting nature requires feeling connected to nature. I will invest 15 minutes in exploring and appreciating a natural area in my region, whether a forest, wetland, coastal area, or somewhere else.
Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Jonathan Guerra 3/20/2022 6:44 PMI am someone who loves to be outdoors and enjoy nature every time I can. I appreciate the beautiful places this earth offers us to go for walks, swimming, hiking, camping, etc. The more I spend time outside, the longer I want all that to last. So, spending time outdoors makes me appreciate my surroundings and makes it want to keep it clean and free of pollution so I can enjoy it as well as future generations. The best way to understand something is to have an experience and spend time with it so you can actually feel a connection. That's how I feel when I'm outdoors. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityWhat else can you do to hold your organization accountable to implement sustainable practices?
Jonathan Guerra 3/20/2022 6:36 PMEncourage them to recycle, walk to work or use a bicycle, reduce food waste, use reusable bags. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Jonathan Guerra 3/20/2022 6:34 PMI could reduce the amount of food I wasted, I could reuse bags when going grocery shopping, I could refuse to buy food items I know I won't eat, I could repurpose my money spent on food i wasted and donate it to programs that try to end world hunger. It makes me feel better about myself when I considerer doing these things. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Jonathan Guerra 3/20/2022 6:25 PMI would rather use this money to donate it to end world hunger. There are millions of people that would be benefited if every household did this, it would really make a positive impact.
