Electricity
Stop over chemical reacting!!: Intro to the Carbon Cycle
Climate change is occurring because of a phenomenon that is also a very basic chemical reaction. When fossil fuels burn, carbon dioxide is produced. Usually, this reaction balances out as carbon dioxide is then used during photosynthesis. However, the amount of carbon being produced currently, due to our overuse of fossil fuels, is tipping this delicate balance. We'll talk more about the effects later on...in the meantime let's learn about how to reduce the ways WE start chemical reactions that create carbon. Use the link below to measure your carbon footprint.

Intro to the Carbon Cycle
In Earth Science this year, we're going to be talking a lot about climate change and the carbon cycle. Take a minute to read the article/video linked below and answer the reflection question.

Explore My Area
Sometimes protecting nature requires feeling connected to nature. I will invest 200 minutes in exploring and appreciating a natural area in my region, whether a forest, wetland, coastal area, or somewhere else.
Land Sinks
Research Peatlands
Peatland Protection and Rewetting
I will spend 20 minutes researching the environmental benefits of peatlands and what is being done around the world to conserve and restore them.

Energy Use: CAR VS BIKE
Read the blog post linked below. What do you propose we do as a more energy efficient form of transportation? Ride a bike? Bike-car combo? Change the design of a car? Ride a sphero?

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Energy Use: CAR VS BIKEWhat do you propose we do as a more energy efficient form of transportation? Ride a bike? Bike-car combo? Change the design of a car? Ride a sphero?
Max Hanger 5/05/2021 9:51 AMBiking is a more energy-efficient form of transportation than a car. This is because the only energy needed and wasted when biking in to propel yourself and your biking using energy you create. A car on the other hand needs more energy to propel a car with a larger weight and mass and it also has a lot of byproducts and wasted energy. A car also uses a process that requires a larger amount of energy to propel it, including its motor and gas. Bikes are a less popular form of transportation even though they are more energy-efficient than cars. Biking is more difficult for the user and takes much longer than driving. A redesigned car may be more energy-efficient if it has less weight or mass. Although cars need a large weight and mass to protect the ones inside at such a high speed and to also hold the heavy machinery needed to propel them. Lighter and smaller weight and masses within cars allow a more energy-efficient form of transportation. This is also why busses are more energy-efficient than cars because more people can get to their locations at the same speed but instead using one bus instead of many cars for individuals. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Stop over chemical reacting!!: Intro to the Carbon CycleWhat's one way you can either offset or limit the amount of carbon you are producing?
Max Hanger 1/07/2021 9:57 AMI can decrease my carbon footprint by riding my bike to places when cars aren't needed as well as carpooling with others so the use of gas is less.
