    Shaelee Harkrider 12/11/2020 8:24 AM
    They deplete the ozone layer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Wave and Tidal Energy
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?

    Shaelee Harkrider's avatar
    Shaelee Harkrider 12/11/2020 8:20 AM
I learned that wave and tidal energy is a clean and renewable source. They are much better for the environment than other sources.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Shaelee Harkrider's avatar
    Shaelee Harkrider 12/11/2020 8:13 AM
Besides environmental benefits, this can help you stay healthy and control portion sizes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Shaelee Harkrider's avatar
    Shaelee Harkrider 12/04/2020 6:31 AM
My vision for a sustainable community is that everyone would use biogas. We could use the digestate to produce our own crops. To do this we would need to implement the machinery for it and cut down on carbon dioxide emissions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Shaelee Harkrider's avatar
    Shaelee Harkrider 12/03/2020 8:20 AM
I learned that family planning is extremely effective. Some places in the world need more education than others, and some need more tools provided.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Shaelee Harkrider's avatar
    Shaelee Harkrider 12/02/2020 7:20 AM
I just want to live a more thoughtful life as a consumer. It’s overwhelming that big corporations are the main problem and I have no control over something like that. I feel hopeful that environments like this even exist. I think it’s incredible that they can absorb carbon dioxide.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Shaelee Harkrider's avatar
    Shaelee Harkrider 12/01/2020 9:08 AM
I can find safer alternatives to use instead of palm oil.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Shaelee Harkrider 11/30/2020 8:17 AM
The women around me experience fear around men in different environments.  I feel like this acts as a barrier.
