Annie Hau 3/10/2022 12:43 AMOne of my favorite things to do on the weekend with my friends and roommate is head over to the farmer's market in Mar Vista! It's a great place to support local small businesses, buy fresh produce, try new food items, and shop. I love to discover the different speciality vendors they have that I can't get at my local grocery stores like special vegan dips, hummus, cheeses, fresh-made bread, and exotic fruits. One of the vendors that my roommates and I love is the vegan cheese dip. Unfortunately, I've forgotten the name of the brand that we always get it from, but they're always there every weekend, and our personal favorite is the cheddar cheese. Completely vegan and made out of cashews, and so delicious! The best thing about the farmer's market at Mar Vista is that they accept EBT which for me is a huge plus since I rely on EBT for my groceries. There's great music that plays in the corner of the food stands, and really delicious food vendors as well. Overall, it's just a really fun place to hang out on the weekend and there's even a really niche thrift store right next to the market that my friends and I like to go into for more sustainable shopping or even buying a book. -
Annie Hau 3/10/2022 12:23 AMI recently learned about the leather industry's impacts on climate change and was inspired to make more fashionably conscious choices. In the past, I've always prioritized price over quality and ethics, and that's something I'd really like to change. I've started thrifting a lot more, and have found not only immense satisfaction from finding a really rare find, but also I feel a lot more ethically conscious and it gives me peace of mind. Goodwill on Thursdays is a great place to start if you're looking to getting into thrifting, especially since they're have their $1 sale on Thursdays. In addition to that, I no longer drive to Goodwill's but rather take the bus because it's not too far away!-
Shivangi Goswami 3/10/2022 9:15 PMI looked more into the impacts of leather as well and found that a good alternative, if you want that specific style, is corn vegan leather. It is a lot more sustainable than real leather, and the corn used to make it is not food grade corn so it requires less water than corn generally and does not divert from resources of animal feed. Corn leather is also durable and long-lasting, which are some of the reasons people look to buy leather in the first place. But I agree with you that thriving and buying second-hand whenever possible is best!!

Annie Hau 3/03/2022 9:19 PMTaking walks to Trader Joe's and Ralphs rather than driving has given me a lot of quality alone time to reflect and just enjoy my time, listen to music or podcasts, and regulate my mood. It really puts me in a reflective state, and carrying back the groceries on the way back is like a mini workout. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Annie Hau 1/29/2022 9:06 AMEspecially with the pandemic, being cooped up in my apartment has made me easily irritable. Taking these daily walks/runs have really regulated my emotions and given me the necessary time outside to be alone.-
JIMMY ZHOU 2/01/2022 12:21 AMI've made it an effort to incorporate daily walks as part of my "morning pillars", aka things that I do every morning to start off the day right. By far, I've enjoyed them as a way to appreciate nature and life a bit more because they are times to unplug away from all the stresses of the world. One way I've thought of to make my walks better is actually waking up early to catch the sunrise, and it adds another piece of tranquility on top of the experience I'm having.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Annie Hau 1/29/2022 9:04 AMWhen practicing mindfulness, I notice that I chew slower, am making more healthy conscious choices, and enjoy a more meaningful time with my roommates. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal More Fruits And VeggiesHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Annie Hau 1/29/2022 9:03 AMEating more fruit and vegetables has not only increased my energy during the day, but it makes me feel healthier and stronger. Eating meat also takes more time to prepare than vegetables, so my cooking time has decreased dramatically-
JIMMY ZHOU 2/01/2022 12:24 AMAlthough eating more fruits and vegetables has its obvious physical benefits, the benefits I've experienced most by far has definitely been mental. I feel as though I am able to think with a clearer head throughout the day, and I feel more encouraged to go on daily walks compared to if I simply ate meat every day. Furthermore, the benefits to our planet are obvious: the production and commercialization of meat is detrimental to our environment.

Annie Hau 1/29/2022 8:38 AMI've noticed a difference during meal times that I eat slower, chew more thoroughly, and have more meaningful conversations with my roommates who eat alongside with me. Conversations that are aside from what we did during our day and more whimsical topics. This process has made me more conscious about what I am eating overall, in the sense that I notice myself making more healthy choices because I'm not just blindly stuffing my face. -
