REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Practice the 5 R'sWhat are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
GARRETT HAUN 6/08/2023 9:15 AMI definitely think Reusing and also refuse! There are so many plastic options I just end up using on the go because it is convenient. I reuse quite often but i realize there are more items I can probably 'repurpose' instead of just throwing away even though it may be useless. But anything else like packages and bags I have been saving and reusing! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Choose LED BulbsChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
GARRETT HAUN 6/08/2023 9:05 AMMy family has started to switch over to energy efficient lightbulbs for our house. They are also safer. I like the color and use 2 in my dorm room. I had no clue it was a better eco-option! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
GARRETT HAUN 6/08/2023 9:03 AMGrowing up on middle eastern food I am so used to meat. I went to a Mediterranean food truck today and was craving steak. Its comfort food for me and reminds me of home. All the had was falafel and rice with sauce. I decided to just take it and wow it was fantastic. I did not know vegetarian dishes were so tasty by themselves. I absolutely approve of Habibbi Shack-
Kelly Gocke 6/08/2023 12:39 PMHi Garrett! I agree that culture plays a large role in people choosing to eat meat. Like you, I've grown up eating lots of meals with meat but I always find that when I try vegan alternatives that I enjoy them, so I think a lot of people just need to be open to trying new things.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
GARRETT HAUN 6/08/2023 8:42 AMI used too alwaysss take far more than I needed at the dining halls. Most of the time I had at least one plate with food left. I started to cut my portions in half every meal for the start to see how full I was. I have been able to not only save pounds of food, but I also saved a few pounds on my own body haha!-
ANDREW TRAN 6/08/2023 9:24 AMHey Garrett, I also started to be more mindful about food waste and started to carefully plan my meals for both my health and the environment! It also helps with overeating and now I don't feel as bloated after meals.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
GARRETT HAUN 5/02/2023 12:27 AMIt was incredibly refreshing to not only eat without my phone, but without distraction in general. I set a goal with my friend to eat in our dining hall and focus on one another and our conversation the entire time without constantly getting up for new food or checking our cellphones. I found that our conversation was so much more meaningful, and that i actually enjoyed the food more because I felt fully concentrated on the taste and experience which may sound silly. It was a fantastic challenge that I definitely will implement every meal.-
ANDREW TRAN 5/02/2023 7:22 AMHey Garrett, this is something that I haven't really thought about but I think it would be a significant improvement to my life. I usually watch something on my phone while eating and find that it makes my meals a lot longer on the average. However when I am with other people, I find it a lot easier to put down my phone and enjoy both the food and the conversation. In groups, however, sometimes phone usage can supplement the conversation and make it even more enjoyable. I think the whole idea is about finding a healthy balance between device usage and meal enjoyment.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
GARRETT HAUN 5/02/2023 12:19 AMI have noticed a significant improvement in my imagination and clarity of mind. After 10 min I started to be far more aware of my posture, walking pattern, eye contact with others, and even my joint haha. I greatly enjoyed walking through the northern side of UCLA and the lush environment of trees and bushes it has. Bridges and Stairs to new locations made the walk more exciting.
