Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

My vision of a sustainable community is having a world where all fuels are green and ecofriendly.  Non bio degradable like plastic, stir foam, etc. are illegal to sell and use.  Alot to ask for but in order to do it we just need people to stop doing greedy

I never knew about biomass technology before completing this challenge but I did find some surprising things.  Carbon-rich biomass can be harvested to produce heat, create steam for electricity production, or be processed into oil or gas. Biomass energy is a true solution only if it uses appropriate feedstock, such as waste from mills and agriculture or sustainably grown perennial crops.

Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?

My next step is turning the lights off when I leave the house.

Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Oliver Hoehne 12/03/2020 3:49 PM
Many refrigerants, such as chlorofluorocarbons damage the ozone layer, while others are extremely potent greenhouse gases. In fact, one kilogram of the refrigerant has the same greenhouse impact as two tons of carbon dioxide, which is the equivalent of running your car for six months.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Composting
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

    Oliver Hoehne's avatar
    Oliver Hoehne 12/03/2020 3:39 PM
When I realized that uneaten food wastes water, energy, and hours of labor; It motivates me to be less picky in what i eat, so that not as much food is wasted.  If I worked in a factory for hours on end, I wouldn't want my hours of work to turn into nothing.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Oliver Hoehne's avatar
    Oliver Hoehne 12/03/2020 3:29 PM
My eating experience is more peaceful and wholesome when I do mindfulness.  I also tend to eat healthier things when I perform mindfulness.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Oliver Hoehne 11/16/2020 9:37 AM
Since Geothermal energy is the energy that comes from inside the earth, one way to invest in it would be to donate money to the Government or installers who build/buy the materials need for the power plant.  You can invest into geothermal energy shares as well.
