zishi Jia 11/22/2020 12:32 PMby doing the research on this topic, i learned that our food choice could make a big difference on climate change. there are 4 food product damaging our forest a lot, palm oil, coffee, cocoa and meat. these types of food have huge demands in the world, to satisfy the demand, people need to cut down forests for space. Now, the forest coverage is down from 12 percent to 5 percent. the solution for this problem is to restore the forest. By doing so, everyone just like me and you needs to start reducing the the needs for the things that is unnecessary. for instance, if we have a hobby of drinking 2 cups of coffee in the morning, we can try to reduce it to 1 cup. -
zishi Jia 11/22/2020 10:10 AMfamily planning is a method of empowering women by using proper contraception. women who lives in developing regions are especially suffering from inefficient contraception. people in developing have poor knowledge about sex, they neither have proper tools to contracept. millions of women in developed countries has taken abortion more than one time. HIV and other STD are also wildly spread in those areas. family planning is here to help those people who suffered form this, and the solution is simple. wear a condom. if people use condom correctly than only two out of a hundred people will become pregnant in 1 year. -
zishi Jia 11/22/2020 9:44 AMDue to the pandemic, people take less public transportation. But, I don't have a car, so if I want to travel to somewhere, I still have to take public transportation. The passengers I saw are all following the rules, they all got their face cover in mask. they also tried to keep social distance with others if possible. Based on my experience, there are not so much people in the bus or metro. It is still relatively safe. So, During the pandemic taking public transportation is not a bad idea, but be safe. -
zishi Jia 11/10/2020 6:02 PMsmaller plate makes you enjoy the food better. because of the plate is small it make you have a feeling that the food is more precious, and you will also apricate the food better. eating with a smaller plate eliminate the chances of wasting your food. you can refile your plate if you are still hungry, but if you eating with a large plate it is harder to measure the amount of food you need. for the photo I posted, the small bowel is the plate i use to eat, the larger dishes are the dressings people shares. -
zishi Jia 11/04/2020 4:02 PMThese LED lightbulbs are surprisingly cheap, I brought a box of 3 lightbulbs and it only cost me 12 dollars. On the box, it was written that using one of these lightbulbs could save me 39.05 dollars per year. And, I tested it at night, it is really bright. -
zishi Jia 10/13/2020 5:04 PMit was really shocking for me to know that one third of the food are wasted during the distribution from farm to our home. in developing countries most of the food are wasted because of lack of proper distribution or storage. these problems are easy to fix, for instance install a better air conditioner at their warehouse so that food can be kept fresh for a longer period of time. in developed countries people have better living condition which also make people more picky about food. so, in developed countries, food waste are often caused by consumers reject food product because of very little defect. to solve this problem, it is going to be much harder than install enough air conditioners but changing peoples perspective. so, i feel like educating people about food waste is necessary. and there is one more fact that interested me is that expiring date of a product doesn't indicate that the product is bad after the date, but rather the quality of the product is not at it's peak. so, even the product is after the expire date it is still possible to eat. -
zishi Jia 10/13/2020 4:03 PMGeothermal energy is the heat that is derived from the earth. And, many scientists believe that Geothermal energy has a great potential of becoming one of the most common used energies in the future. the reason scientists have so much expectations on Geothermal energy is because it has a really powerful power source which is the core of earth. The inner core of earth is as hot as the surface of the sun which is about 5500 degree Celsius. If people could utilize all this heat from the core, than we can reduce tons of fossil fuels is burned. unfortunately, this geothermal energy is not mature, it can cause earthquake. when the workers drill a deep hole, there will be crackes around the deep hole, and this creeks are used as tunnels to heat up the water. the heated up water will generate steam, and people will use these steam to generate electricity. but, the creaks the workers made are not controllable, it can lead to major earthquake. even, this technique is not mature right now but through more researches that has been made, geothermal energy will be stable in the near future. -
zishi Jia 10/06/2020 12:40 PMgreen gentrification is a process that government placing green space near neighborhoods which can cause people having a larger gap between social classes. Because the country allocates a lot of money to build green communities that makes green communities usually have a better living environment, and the prices of such houses are much higher than those that have not been greened. This greened type of community can only be afforded by the upper class, and working class people can only live in communities that have not been greened. from the researches i found, I feel like to green the community is good for our enivrement but it also generated inequality. if only rich people can live in well infrastructure community and the poor lives in disinfrastructure community, than it will intensify the class conflicts which may lead to revolution. -
zishi Jia 9/16/2020 4:31 PMWind power generation is one of the most pro-environment energies in the world. But is installing a micro wind turbine worth it? From the researches I have done, the answer is no. Fist wind turbine is not stable. If you live in a place with not so much of wind, then the wind turbine will not generate enough electricity your need. Second, for building a wind turbine you will need to build a tower that is at least 30 feet tall and for a fact that most small wind manufacturers will recommend a minimum height of 65 feet. The height of the micro wind turbine will cause you so much inconvenience when you trying to build one. Compares to solar panels, which will provide consistent power, rugged construction and lower cost, micro wind turbine doesn’t really have much advantage.
