5 sustainability actions from the Eco-challenge, its challenges, and its relevance for me.

     1. START A SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN
Its challenges are the fact that polarization around climate change is a major issue today, and social media has played a central role in heightening it. It also carries the potential to be a powerful mediating tool which is why it is relevant to me.  For example, social media has two characteristics that are instrumental in influencing popular attitudes when it comes to many issues, including the state of the Earth’s climate. First, it is highly expressive – that is, it leads to the voicing of opinions on climate change and interactions with other people who hold similar or differing views.  Secondly, it is consumptive: people consume information, whether from other ‘lay’ users or professional news outlets with a presence on social platforms.

2.RESEARCH THE CLIMATE IMPACT OF REFRIGERANTS
The challenge to be explore will be the correlation between refrigerants and climate change. It is relevant to me because when it gets hot, the hot try to cool down. However, due to the use of refrigerants, cooling is a privilege that can have a negative impact on the environment. Refrigerants cause damage to the ozone layer and contribute to global warming.
    3. PRACTICE THE 5 R'S

The challenge is to raise awareness, empower the communities, and explore new ways on how to tackle global waste. It is relevant because to live sustainably, society must alter its consumption habits. To preserve the planet for future generations we need to live produce zero-waste. Following the 5Rs for ecological living, Refuse-Reduce-Reuse-Repurpose-Recycle can help society to live cleanly.
     4. ADVOCATE FOR MORE PACKAGING OPTIONS
While the desire for sustainability in consumer packaging design is strong among all consumer demographics, it should be noted that  the younger Millennial generation is particularly concerned with sustainability as an integral part of corporate responsibility. As such, the challenge is why is it that all products do not come in the most sustainable packaging? This is relevant to me because packaging is what the consumer sees on the store shelves, so despite its accounting for a relatively small proportion of environmental impact, it is what consumers interact with most directly. Therefore, it still makes sense for brands to maximize packaging sustainability, even if it does not have as much of an effect as improving sustainability elsewhere in the supply chain.
    5. REDUCE ANIMAL PRODUCTS
The challenge here is that continuing high consumption of livestock products and increasing demand for livestock-based foods in large transition economies, are creating serious problems of prolonged and persistent environmental and social degradation. It is relevant to me because according to research, around 70% of agricultural land and 30% of the global land surface are used by animal production. Thus, livestock rearing has significant repercussions on virtually all aspects of environmental well-being.
