My drawdown eco challenges are going well! Ever since I started this class, I have been avoiding palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products and have managed to cut most of these products out completely (except for organic dark chocolate from time to time). Not only am I feeling good about doing things that don't hurt the environment, but I am also feeling more healthy. If more people start doing this, the positive effect it could have on the environment and climate change would be astronomical. I have been advocating eating less of these products as well as using cars less for short distances to my friends and I am hoping that people do the same with their friends because while one person may not have a huge impact on the environment, spreading awareness to a lot of people and having them do things that can benefit the environment will have an impact.

Hi Sophia! This is something that I'm also going to start doing to reduce my negative impact on the environment. These products aren't necessary in my diet, but their processing is harmful, so taking this step will make a small difference in the right direction. Spreading the word about this suggestion is also important since many people are eager to take the right steps, but they are unsure where to start.

One of my actions was to make smarter seafood choices so that I don't negatively affect the environment. As a huge fan of poke, sushi, sashimi, or anything with raw ahi tuna or salmon, I wanted to make sure that the fish that I was eating was not something that I should avoid for the environment's sake. There's this one place that I go to back at home, Bear Flag Fish Co, that serves the fish that they catch and they use only sustainable fishing practices. I want to make sure that while I want to continue eating fish, I am doing it sustainably and responsibly. I now, moving forward, will continue to make sure that the fish I eat is not something I should avoid.

Recently, I have been walking a lot more and have found a lot of joy in doing so because I am decreasing my carbon foot print. Before this class, I would take my car to get my groceries because I was either lazy or because I didn't have a comfortable reusable bag that would last me all the way home without ripping. However, after buying myself a bag that works for walking, I have been finding ways to avoid taking my car around Westwood. Walking to and from the grocery store has also helped me buy the right amount of food where I won't waste anything. This is something that I want to keep on doing especially back in my hometown as well.
