    I had no idea these dates have NOTHING to do with human health but are primarily for merchants. Now I will let my nose and eyes determine when food is thrown away instead of these arbitrary "sell by" dates. The more you know . . .

      I, for one, need to call my grandma and ask how she can tell if a melon is fresh by knocking on it. No need for sell by dates when you can just hit a watermelon and "hear" freshness!
