Ana's actions
Industry
Practice the 5 R's
Recycling
I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Smaller Portions
Reduced Food Waste
I will use smaller plates and/or serve smaller portions when dishing out food.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 50 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Industry
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bioplastics
I will avoid buying and using 1 single-use plastics and instead replace them with durable options.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Animal Products
Plant-Rich Diets
I will enjoy 1 meatless or vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Industry
Advocate For More Packaging Options
Multiple Industry Solutions
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Practice the 5 R'sWhat are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Ana Carrizo 7/30/2020 4:38 PMI've been doing this for a while now but sometimes I throw away some things because they are hard to clean before recycling. I'm not doing it again from now on. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Ana Carrizo 7/30/2020 4:36 PMThis is also one of my goals in order to lose weight in a healthy way. I've been paying attention to the amount of food I take to my table, as sometimes I eat more than what I need.-
Don Maruska 8/17/2020 3:26 PMGood for you and for the environment. A double win!
