Conduct Virtual Meetings
Telepresence
I will encourage my office to hold meetings virtually whenever possible instead of requiring travel.
Industry
Calculate the carbon footprint of my household
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Land Sinks
Research Peatlands
Peatland Protection and Rewetting
I will spend 25 minutes researching the environmental benefits of peatlands and what is being done around the world to conserve and restore them.
Industry
Practice the 5 R's
Recycling
I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Smart Seafood Choices
Ocean Farming
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Electricity
Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal Power
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning more about the energy generation potential of geothermal energy and consider investing in this technology.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
McKenzie Liston 4/30/2023 10:43 PMRecycling has always been a very important part of my life just because I feel like I learned about it at a young age and it became a very important and almost everyday task. The R's are very important to how we plan to reduce and reuse things we as humans consume. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
McKenzie Liston 4/30/2023 10:10 PMWhen choosing this action I was interested in the topic because I had never heard of a peatland but now I feel very understanding of their importance to our climate and our future. I watched 3 different documentaries based in different locations about them educating the importance of these lands. It was interesting to find out that peatlands are wetlands but have a thick soil layer of dead plant matter that hold an immense amount of carbon storage. The importance of the peatlands is absolutely vital for carbon storage, wildlife and all life on earth but yet they are stilled seen as unutilized land that can be dug up for a oil drilling due to the richness under the soil. Attached are the links to the 3 shorter documentaries :)

REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
McKenzie Liston 4/29/2023 2:45 PMWhen looking at this website I found myself feeling very fortunate to be able to figure out what things are environmentally friendly food or not. I think this website is a very great start for educating and promoting important environmental negatives and creating a change. When looking on the https://www.seafoodwatch.org/recommendations/search?query=%3Abuy%3BRed you are able to specify the thing you want to avoid which I find very helpful because although seeing what seafood is okay to eat is helpful, it is good to simplify based on bad options as well. I found my seafood search very helpful to what I look for on a menu or look to buy in the store for my future. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Calculate the carbon footprint of my householdAfter you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?
McKenzie Liston 4/29/2023 2:06 PMIn my household I noticed that we all eat meat on a daily basis, that was a large contribution to our carbon footprint overall. I plan to personally try and not eat meat daily and maybe make it a once a week thing. I feel like with my household they can be pretty stubborn when it comes to change but being able to show them how their intake impacts everything else helped them understand a deeper meaning within what a carbon footprint is and how they can make these changes for our future. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Conduct Virtual MeetingsHow can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?
McKenzie Liston 4/27/2023 4:35 PMThis week I was able to have 3 of my mandatory advising meetings online and it was very helpful for my time but also normally I would have a roomate or a friend drop me off at these meetings which could potentially be unnecessary in many cases! -
McKenzie Liston 4/25/2023 4:38 PMToday I had the opportunity to learn more about geothermal energy and I learned lots such as geothermal plants have the least carbon footprint of all energy sources! Many of the things I looked into were on the link that will be availble here :
(This one has to do with how Geothermal energy is important mainly the UK)
(I found this article interesting because it showed many aspects of informing me on the mathematical aspect but also the reality aspect as well)
(This link is probably the best quick understanding on the basics of how, what and wheres)
Overall, these links were a few of the links that created me to better understand what the importance on this solution behind this energy source.-
Marcus nguyen richard 4/28/2023 1:39 AMDefine your company's values and culture: Before you can ensure that your virtual meetings align with your company's values and culture, you need to have a clear understanding of what they are. Take some time to define and document your company's values and culture, and share them with your team. Set expectations: Communicate your expectations for virtual meetings to your team. Let them know what behavior is acceptable and what is not, and encourage them to contribute their own ideas and suggestions. Create an agenda: Having a clear agenda for your virtual meetings will help ensure that they stay focused and on-topic. This will help you to achieve your meeting goals efficiently, and also demonstrate that your company values respecting people's time. Encourage participation: Encourage participation from all attendees during virtual meetings, and create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone to share their thoughts and ideas. This will help to promote collaboration and ensure that everyone feels valued and respected. Follow up and provide feedback: After virtual meetings, follow up with attendees to ensure that any action items have been completed and to provide feedback on the meeting's effectiveness. This will help to reinforce your company's values and culture, and demonstrate your commitment to continuous improvement.
