Katy's actions
Materials
Practice the 5 R's
Recycling
I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Food
Smart Seafood Choices
Ocean Farming
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Women and Girls
Connect With A Nonprofit
Health and Education
I will connect with a local nonprofit working on issues affecting women, girls, and/or trans/nonbinary people in my community, and find out how I can get involved or become a member.
Food
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 50 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Transport
Test Drive an Electric Bike
Electric Bicycles
I will test drive an electric bike at a local distributor to see if it makes sense to use one in place of my car, or to extend the area I can cover by bike.
Action Track: Healing & Renewal
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 10 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Katy Mann 8/31/2020 2:20 PMEvery weekend I walk to the farmers market where I buy all my fruits and veg. My husband and I eat plant-rich meals full of beautiful and locally sourced produce. Anything we waste (which is very little) all gets composted. Shopping what’s fresh and in season cuts out much of the emissions generated by conventional agriculture. I also post a picture every weekend with my haul to inspire friends to support the farms and farmers that making living in the Bay Area so special and delicious!-

Katy Mann 6/19/2020 8:52 AMThis week I've been reading and learning about environmental justice, and the environmental inequalities and impact on people of color and lower income communities. I'm looking for ways to take action in in the SF bay area.-

Adam Schule 7/19/2022 9:01 AMBeing a man is virtually forbidden in the environment we live in today. But if we want to develop into strong, useful men, we must let go of the bizarre notions of manhood that are prevalent in our culture. Without a doubt, this is the first step to improving as a man.
