REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Noa Mordecovich 3/25/2022 3:42 PMIn the last couple of years, since my family members became vegans. I was open to other thoughts and ethical ideas. It bothered me every time I ate either chicken or meat. A year ago, on my birthday, my boyfriend and I went to a gorgeous restaurant, and we took many dishes, one of which was paste with meat slices. The dish was so delicious, but as always, after eating meat, I felt sick, and we stayed home the day after. That was the day that I decided to stop eating meat and chicken. Today, I am a pescetarian and enjoy every day that passes. After every meal, I feel much lighter and happier. When seeing others eating meat or even smelling it, I have nausea and am so grateful for my decision to stop. Eating more fruit and veggies, I know I help better the environment. I saw many movies where they explain how being vegan is the best lifestyle not only for your body but also for our planet. Animals agriculture uses numerous amounts of water, and it is the number one source of methane (a hazardous air pollutant and greenhouse gas) worldwide. These facts make me feel more confident with my decision and make me proceed to the next level and stop eating eggs & fish. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Noa Mordecovich 3/25/2022 3:41 PMIn today's life, expressing myself in fashion has become more accessible due to many options. Not only is fashion changing very fast, but people can dress today as they want. Thrifting became mainstream. There are many vlogs of celebrities thrift shopping and finding great products at low prices. It is much more fit for any budget and saves the planet. Old fashion is cool today; for instance, flare pants from the '70s are stylish today. Big corporations of fast fashion such as Zara and many more are the second-largest consumer of water worldwide, and it causes water pollution problems too. This fact made me stop buying fast fashion and delete all my shopping apps, and I have downloaded second-hand applications such as The Real-Real, Depop, Mercari, etc. Since covid people are more interested in comfortable fashion such as hoodies and sneakers rather than have 100/100 looks with high-heels and ties. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Noa Mordecovich 3/04/2022 9:00 PMI have been trying to eat mindfully every breakfast for several months now. Since I have such a tight schedule, and I usually work from 4 pm to 11 pm, I know that my lunch is typically busy with colleagues. I am so tired at my dinner that I focus every breakfast on eating alone and without distractions. I am letting my thoughts and feelings flood my mind, telling myself how I want my day to look and focusing mainly on myself. That way, I am starting my morning stronger, and I am fully aware of what I eat & drink. That way, I am eating less and getting full faster & longer. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
Noa Mordecovich 3/04/2022 8:45 PMMy boyfriend and I bought white-led bulbs when we moved to the apartment and changed all the lights in the house. On top of that, we joined renewable energy for Con Edison customers. We made the clean energy choice built on 100% wind & solar. We are paying an additional 10-15% to our Con Edison bill in order to take part in this plan. This plan ensures us our energy is 100% clean and has 0 carbon pollution.
