REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Viviana Moreno-Velazquez 12/02/2020 7:50 AMWell before I didn’t really see much wrong with the world and thought that people were blowing things out of proportion but now I see that it’s serious and I should really stop thinking these things aren’t a big deal. Now that I know more It feels overwhelming to know that our environment is really starting to get damaged and our environment is where we get many resources and to know that it’s been getting damaged little by little is terrible becasue not too long from now it will be destroyed. I do feel hopeful is that it’s not too late to start doing something about it and hopefully more people see and realize these mistakes were all making. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Viviana Moreno-Velazquez 12/01/2020 8:53 AMYou could try and take care of the ecosystem and try to not let out too much energy that adds up to greenhouse gasses. You could also donate to organizations that protect our peat lands or do more research about them and try and see what affects the peat lands. An try to protect the land to conserve it more because if we don't a lot of greenhouse gasses are gonna be released. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Research Heat PumpsWhy is taking action on climate change important to you? Why do you care?
Viviana Moreno-Velazquez 11/30/2020 1:51 PMtaking care of climate change is important to me because it affects future generations if not taken care of earlier, for example right now our atmosphere and environments are dying out little by little and we are driving animals extinct. I care about the environment because even though I am always inside and being lazy I do still enjoy going outside and taking a walk and just relaxing and sooner or later it won't be there anymore and I won't be able to enjoy as well as others generations. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Share Bioplastic Disposal TipsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Viviana Moreno-Velazquez 11/29/2020 7:53 PMI am afraid that our planet is dying quicker from not doing many things that could actually help it, for example, the compost will help the world and lower the waste and lower the amount of carbon burned also our atmosphere would be way better and so will the environment. Locally I do think that people could plant gardens, plant more trees, or start recycling instead of throwing away all the garbage in one. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research the Climate Impact of RefrigerantsWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Viviana Moreno-Velazquez 11/29/2020 7:18 PMwell, the climate impact is really bad due to the fact that they aren't good for the atmosphere. refrigerants are bad for the atmosphere and can hurt out ozone layer plus cause negative effects on human life. a supermarket has huge refrigerators full of these things and even one crack or not disposing of this right will lead to catastrophic damage to our environment and atmosphere. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Viviana Moreno-Velazquez 11/28/2020 9:09 PMspending time outside and taking a walk or sitting down will make you feel better and appreciate the outside more. Taking walks outside has shown that improves mental health and lowe stress. Taking walks also helps you change calm down and pay attention to everything it has to offer and you'll start to see how much your outside is essential it will also help you appreciate your surroundings more by helping you realize how beautiful and calming the outside is. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Explore Other Transportation SolutionsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Viviana Moreno-Velazquez 11/28/2020 1:15 PMI found out that there are plenty of other more ways to get around that will get us to places and also save our earth. For example, public transport, walking, biking, or carpooling. Even though all these components create greenhouse gasses if a portion of people does this then the gasses will start to do down and greenhouse gasses would be reduced this would also help our land usage as well. I found it interesting when I was learning about this many people want more electric cars so not as much energy is used but at the same time those type of cars are the newest type of cars and most expensive, but instead of that, you could just use other forms of transportation instead. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Explore Other Food, Agriculture, and Land Use SolutionsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Viviana Moreno-Velazquez 11/27/2020 8:11 PMI found out that much of our land is actually used for much more than just farming. It was actually really surprising to know that our land use even includes rods, parks, and residential areas I always thought that land use meant agriculture or protecting the forest. Something interesting that I learned was that agriculture is one of the largest employers in the world and that we are wasting our land use on producing many more places to live in or even more hotels or condos that aren't very essential also building more roads to have less traffic but we are ruining these parts and create more traffic while just building the roads and we are creating more roads minimizing or land. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Viviana Moreno-Velazquez 11/24/2020 6:33 PMMy diet is impacting the forest in many negative due to the fact that I don’t really eat anything healthy and usually consist of more meat and eggs even the makeup I use. I could start to eat more balanced and eat more fruits and vegetables more often and switch to some brands that don’t use palm oils. I could also now lookout for names on coffee so I know which ones were sustainably grown. -
