I researched Silvopastures for my one time challenge. I wanted to choose something that I had no previous knowledge about. This gave me the best opportunity to learn something that would benefit me the most. Silvopasture is integrating trees and grazing livestock. Livestock causes a lot of deforestation around the world as people make room for them. Silvopasture tries to mitigate this by offering the alternative. There is a lot of economic and ecological benefit to this idea. Not only can the farmer make money off his livestock but when the trees are of the right age they can be harvested as well and new ones planted in their place. This has huge longterm benefits. I am very happy I was able to find something new to learn about it. I think silvopasture is a great idea and I hope we see it used more all around the world. If you want to learn more about silvopasture the usda has a great website on it. I will attach the link below

Now that we are at the end of the eco-challenge I am proud about how I have changed my habits. I used to go through multiple water bottles a day. Now I bring the same yeti cup with me where ever I go. This will cut down on my single use plastic use substantially well into the future

I looked for creative options to help me get away from single use practice. I bought a yeti cup to carry and refill on campus

My daily challenge was very hard at the beginning. Not using water bottles was a big change for me.

Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

I had not heard of silvopasture before this assignment so I was excited to learn about it. Integrating more nature into grazing areas for animals is a great idea. It makes a lot of sense and I think it should be used more widely. It is a great way to increase the area we have currently to plant trees which are vital for our ecosystem. I hope it becomes more widely practiced in the future

What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I normally use a one time to go coffee cup in the morning. I could switch to a reusable thermos instead
