REFLECTION QUESTIONFood CompostingProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Carolyn Platt 4/24/2020 6:03 AMWe have been composting at home for several years. For the past year we are also using the industrial compost bins at the Acton transfer station for things like bones, pineapple skin and other hard to break down waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Choose Recycled PaperGood job on choosing recycled paper! How can you take your action a step further?
Carolyn Platt 4/15/2020 5:42 AMI belong to Green Acton, an environmental group, and we are looking at the materials we use in our organization. REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
Carolyn Platt 4/09/2020 6:00 AMI will freeze vegetable skins, tops and stalks to use when I make vegetable broth.
