REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?
Rachel Radina 5/01/2022 8:23 AM"Green infrastructure planning for climate adaptation needs to incorporate financing schemes that will ensure the protection of social and public housing stocks and build new permanent affordable housing for different income ranges in the vicinity of climate-resilience infrastructure." Also, really ensuring that local community folks (from all backgrounds) are included in planning and decision making. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Learn More about Regenerative AgricultureClean air, clean water and healthy food are just three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons? How could/does regenerative agriculture positively impact you and your community?
Rachel Radina 5/01/2022 8:08 AMIt reduces your carbon footprint when you produce your own food. It creates healthy soil. It also gets you out in the sunshine, enjoying nature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Rachel Radina 4/11/2022 6:06 PMI have moved to stainless steel straws, but often forget to bring them to restaurants. However, if I bring a drink in the car I am sure to bring my own reusable straw. I do use plastic bags and want to reduce the amount I use. I have bags that I take to the grocery store on most occasions, but sometimes when I am out I end up with plastic bags because I don't have the reusable one's with me. I plan to put some in my car this week.-
Juliann Zimmer 4/16/2022 6:48 PMwe have so many reusable grocery bags and yet they never seem to be in the car when we are at the grocery store. we need to work on this!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Rachel Radina 4/11/2022 6:03 PMToday was the first day and it was around campus. I noticed there is a lot of noise pollution and that made the walk less enjoyable. The traffic patterns on campus are also more car than pedestrian friendly. One nice thing is that they have great bike lanes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
-
Rachel Radina 4/10/2022 6:43 PMI got a late start, but I am hoping to be fully committed for the rest of the challenge!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Conduct Virtual MeetingsHow can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?
Rachel Radina 4/10/2022 6:42 PMI have found that virtual meetings can be more productive and can give folks more opportunities to share. It is also great for folks who are not as mobile or need to stay out of public areas due a compromised immune system. Having online meetings creates more equity and is more inclusive.-
Connie OConnor 4/11/2022 2:36 PMI agree!

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Rachel Radina 4/10/2022 6:39 PMRefuse certain products at restaurants (boxes, straws, etc.), repair broken electronic items instead of buying new, if I can't repurpose something find someone who can. It makes me feel good and I hope to continue this practice.-
Carolyn Ramseur 4/11/2022 8:05 AMThe 2 new "R"s were something I hadn't heard of before this. Definitely a great addition to the slogan because it's so important to realize that repurposing and refusing can be really efficient ways to consume less! I've found it really helpful in thinking about my own footprint and waste.

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Practice the 5 R'sWhat are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Rachel Radina 4/10/2022 6:37 PMReuse containers that something else was previously stored in. Stop buying all water bottles and instead only use my refillable bottle.
