What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

It concerns me the most that we continue to allow large corporations to continue pumping absolutely massive amounts of carbon dioxide and other GHGs into the atmosphere with no consequences or limitations.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Use Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

It makes me more aware of all the little actions I can do to help sequester climate change. The fact that there is very little I as an individual can currently do the solve the problem is overwhelming. Little good news bits, such as hearing that the hole in the ozone is projected to heal make me hopeful.

How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

I discuss it with my friends a lot.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Buildings and Cities Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

I've noticed that there are a lot of other people enjoying walks as a source of exercise during quarantine. I've enjoyed the fresh air and taking a break from my screens. If there were more sidewalks, that would improve my walks significantly.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Samuel Rattigan's avatar
    Samuel Rattigan 5/08/2020 1:02 PM
My current diet involves a substantial amount of meat and dairy. These products relate to a lot of deforestation. To decrease my negative impact, I could eat less meat and dairy, and eat plant-based options.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Samuel Rattigan's avatar
    Samuel Rattigan 5/06/2020 11:05 AM
I had not heard of silvopasture before today. I think that the biggest advantage is that it can simultaneously reduce CO2 and farm animals.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Reduce Single-Use Disposables
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Samuel Rattigan's avatar
    Samuel Rattigan 5/05/2020 9:51 AM
I regularly use ketchup packets. I could substitute this for a bottle of ketchup, which would reduce waste.

It helps me know when it is truly time to give up on food and throw it away, and when I can actually keep eating it.
