Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Stay on the Ground
What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

Aircraft Interior Products. Installing high quality aircraft interior products in your airplanes can really take your airline to the next level.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Purchase a Carbon Offset
A round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2—per person. That’s a lot of carbon! What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?

    Heidy Rivera's avatar
    Heidy Rivera 6/16/2021 12:01 PM
At a cruising speed of 780 km per hour [Wikipedia, 28.2. 08], this is equivalent to 90 kg CO2 per hour. So for both aircraft, the emissions are around 90 kg CO2 per hour
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Advocate For Greener Vehicles
How does advocating for green vehicles in your community connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to fuel-efficient vehicles?

    Heidy Rivera's avatar
    Heidy Rivera 6/16/2021 12:00 PM
Nearly three-fourths of consumers are willing to pay more for sustainable packaging. That's according to new research by Trivium Packaging.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

    Heidy Rivera 6/16/2021 11:59 AM
Like the name suggests, the main benefit of an eco friendly car is that it emits less pollution, thereby reducing harmful effects on the environment. However, eco friendly cars can save more than the environment. Drivers of eco friendly cars can also save money in their pockets.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Express My Support For Equitable Biking Infrastructure
What do you like most about biking in your city? What would you like to improve?

    Heidy Rivera's avatar
    Heidy Rivera 6/16/2021 11:58 AM
Cycling improves strength, balance and coordination. It may also help to prevent falls and fractures. Riding a bike is an ideal form of exercise if you have osteoarthritis, because it is a low-impact exercise that places little stress on joints.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Go by Bike
How does using human-powered transportation make you feel compared to using other methods of transportation?

    Heidy Rivera's avatar
    Heidy Rivera 6/16/2021 11:57 AM
Human-powered transport is the transport of person(s) and/or goods using human muscle power. Like animal-powered transport, human-powered transport has existed since time immemorial in the form of walking, running and swimming. Modern technology has allowed machines to enhance human-power.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Learn about Carbon Offsets
What are some attributes of an offset that you should consider before purchasing them?

    Heidy Rivera's avatar
    Heidy Rivera 6/16/2021 11:57 AM
Environmental experts have identified a number of criteria to look for in a carbon offset. Some of the most common criteria are Additionality, Permanence, absence of Leakage, and Verification. Additionalityrefers to whether the carbon emissions reduction or mitigation would have happened without the offset.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Try Carpooling
List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

    Heidy Rivera's avatar
    Heidy Rivera 6/16/2021 11:56 AM
Imagine that you are seven years old. You are participating in an experiment. A researcher greets you and shows you into a small room. In the room there is a marshmallow. The marshmallow is for you, but here is the interesting part: The researcher tells you that he is going to leave you alone in the room for a while. You can eat the marshmallow right away, or you can wait until he gets back. If you wait until he gets back, you will get a second marshmallow .
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Express My Support For Walkable Cities
How could better walking infrastructure make your city both more enjoyable and more equitable?

    Heidy Rivera's avatar

Designing streets for people not cars.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk

    Heidy Rivera's avatar
    Heidy Rivera 6/16/2021 11:55 AM
Strolling the same path each morning, continually passing that same tree on the trails, or (worse yet) running into that nosey neighbor every time you step out can get old.
