REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Fiona Rollins 5/28/2023 6:29 AMExploring your area is important to understand the other creatures around you. Humans share this planet with so many other species, its incredible to understand even a few. -
Fiona Rollins 5/28/2023 6:19 AMI often walk to work early in the morning. Just a few weeks ago it was still dark outside, but now it is bright and filled with the sounds of birds chirping. Its a great way to start off my day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use CompostingProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Fiona Rollins 5/24/2023 9:37 AMI am most driven by the loss of water, land, and the energy used to produce food that goes uneaten. All of these recourses are very important to the health of the planet, along with the continuation of a healthy planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Support Nutrient ManagementHow does environmental quality influence your sense of community?
Fiona Rollins 5/24/2023 9:34 AMWhen people are fighting for their basic needs, such as a healthy environment, they do not have the capacity to worry about other things or focus on community building. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Tend A GardenHave you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.
Fiona Rollins 5/22/2023 8:05 AMEvery summer, I stay in a random lake house on a random lake in Vermont or New Hampshire with my family for a week. I have been doing this since I was very little. I have always loved this week full of swimming, fishing, and exploring the woods. A couple of years ago I spent some time by myself at the lake and just listened to all of the sounds around me. There were birds, bugs, frogs, dogs, and more. There was no text messages or blaring TVs. It was very peaceful. I continued to go to the lake early in the morning by myself for the rest of the week, and every year after. Now, I require this alone time in the morning without using my phone or talking to anyone. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Fiona Rollins 5/09/2023 10:36 AMEating smaller portions usually makes me feel more energized throughout the day. I also make sure not to eat more than I need or would make me feel good. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Fiona Rollins 5/09/2023 10:34 AMI walk to work in the morning, and recently I have noticed it getting lighter and brighter out. This makes my walks much more enjoyable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
