Tillie Root 12/14/2020 9:06 AMI had never heard of a silvopasture before now. I think their greatest advantage is the diversity of yields and its resilience. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research the Climate Impact of RefrigerantsWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Tillie Root 12/14/2020 8:48 AMI learned that refrigerants with CFC are a major cause of ozone depleation. Supermarkets are one of the main consumers of refrigerants. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Tillie Root 12/11/2020 6:36 PMMy vision of a sustainable community would be a small community that uses manual or electric transit (for longer journeys), has sustainable energy such as methane digesters, and farms the majority of food sustainable themselves. So many things would have to change in this capitalist society to have this become a reality. -

Tillie Root 12/11/2020 2:15 PMI am trying to be more aware of my actions and the effects they have on the environment. It is a bit overwhelming how much our actions affect the environment, even the simplest things like eating a granola bar. I'm hopeful that with enough mindful practices and restoration we can get the environment back up -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Tillie Root 12/11/2020 1:31 PMYou can choose to only consume products that do not support the draining of peatlands as well as advocate for the preservation of them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Research Barriers to Participation and RepresentationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Tillie Root 12/09/2020 8:30 AMIn our community, there are many people with misogynistic views (not as many as the majority of the south), which causes it to be harder for women to have their voices heard and/or taken seriously, as well as get positions of power. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Tillie Root 12/08/2020 7:14 AMMy diet is impacting deforestation by including eggs and dairy products, palm oil and cacao, as well as occasional coffee. I can try to avoid products with palm oil in them, only use chocolate and coffee with the rainforest alliance seal, and try to eat vegan as much as possible. -
