Annie Saustad 2/28/2022 10:50 AMAfter attending a climate action event over micro plastics and continuously asking my parents to switch from plastic water bottles, I've finally been able to convince them to get a Brita! My parents probably use about 5 plastic water bottles a day (my mom refuses to give up her Fiji water), but after calling them and educating them on the climate crisis I received this text from my mom.-
Ryan Shum 3/04/2022 9:09 PMHey Annie! I've never thought about that. This post has definitely influenced me to try to get my parents to use Brita filters. My parents usually buy a supply of plastic water bottles and use them day to day for when they go out. So I thought it would be better for them just to get a hydro flask and use the Brita filter to fill it up. I also feel like it would be more cost effective, so that they would save money from not buying plastic water bottles. They are used to the convenience of it but I feel like they will listen to what I have to say. So thank you for this! Definitely gonna try to talk their mind into it. -
Bailey Herbert 3/01/2022 6:30 PMHi Annie! This was so encouraging to read! I had a similar experience with my roommates. We had been using lots of plastic water bottles and it was sad to see how much plastic waste we were creating. I proposed the idea of a Brita to them and they all really liked it! We decided to invest in one and haven’t gone back. I find that the water tastes better and is easier to access as well! I would definitely recommend this for anyone who wants a cleaner way to have good water. Also, it will minimize the number of trips you take to the store since you won’t have to buy water so often.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Annie Saustad 1/28/2022 2:30 PMI've noticed that when eating mindfully, meaning with no distractions, I actually think about what I'm putting into my body. Expanding on this, I start to wonder where my food is from, how its being processed, how its being packaged, and how its being sold to me. I think eating mindfully has helped me make smarter decision about not only what I've been putting into my body, but also how my food choices affect the environment. I've started eating less meat and I've been cooking more with "real food" rather than ordering in. Not only does it make me feel good morally, but my body feels better than before I've started eating mindfully. I've even been able to get the rest of my family to start doing this. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Annie Saustad 1/27/2022 6:03 PMI'm currently home in Dallas and I realized that we don't have side walks in my neighborhood like we do in Westwood. This made me think that if we were to put more sidewalks in neighborhoods it would actually cause people to walk more instead of drive. I love walking to target or trader joes in Westwood and its easy and safe to do so, but in Dallas its definitely not safe solely because I'm having to walk in the middle of the street while constantly being on the lookout for cars. Thus, increasing the amount of sidewalks would be a great way to lower CO2 emissions.
