REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Learn about the impact of old refrigerantsWhy are old refrigerant gases so harmful to our environment?
Chloe Shamtob 5/22/2023 4:25 PMOld refrigerant gases can be very harmful to our ozone layer. One kilogram of the refrigerant R410a, for example, has the same greenhouse gas impact as two tonnes of carbon dioxide. It blows my mind how some things can be so harmful to our environment.-
Isabella Eklund 5/25/2023 11:21 AMWow Chloe thanks for sharing what you learned! I didn't realize how harmful. refrigerant gases can be to the environment. It's somewhat surprising that we hear so much about CO2 and methane in the media yet refrigerant gases which are more harmful don't seem to get as much attention so thanks for sharing your findings!

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?
Chloe Shamtob 5/22/2023 4:23 PMI learned that wave and tidal energy is a very efficient renewable resources however they are limited in site availability compared to other sources. It has a very high energy density compared to other renewable energy forms and produces no greenhouse gases or other waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Spread the Word about Energy AlternativesWhat inspiration and wisdom can you gather from your family, faith, or community traditions that would help you in both communicating about and addressing our most pressing energy issues?
Chloe Shamtob 5/22/2023 4:15 PMI can believe my family will be open to new ideas that help to combat our most pressing energy issues. I can speak to them about installing solar panels to use solar energy or donate to causes the use alternative sources/help to install them.-
TASNIA RASUL 6/08/2023 11:16 AMHi Chloe,
I appreciate how you consider your family in the conversation of sustainability. Fighting the climate crisis is not a one person job and is influenced by. every human being in the world. We need to work together to educate each other so every person knows why and how they can contribute to reducing climate change.

REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Fix Leaky FaucetsWhat are other easy and low-cost ways to reduce your water usage at home?
Chloe Shamtob 5/02/2023 10:13 PMOther easy and low-cost ways to reduce my water usage at home is taking shorter showers and turning of the sink while I am brushing my teeth. Additionally, I will try to not run the dishwasher as often.-
Billy Ung 5/06/2023 8:18 PMI have also been trying to reduce my water usage at home as well. It can be quite difficult as I am someone who likes taking long showers. Something I try to do is set a 5 minute timer on my phone along with a very loud alarm to really pressure me into getting in and out quickly. In addition, I also have been trying to use my dishwasher less frequently. A dishwasher is so convenient at times but I realize that hand washing is just as effective for half the amount of water used.

Chloe Shamtob 4/18/2023 10:38 AMI believe mindful eating is healthier because you will take note of what your eating and not feed into distractions. My eating experience will differ when practicing mindfulness as I will focus less on electronic devices and take please of each bite I consume. This will help me not to be wasteful or overeat. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Chloe Shamtob 4/17/2023 11:13 AMThere are many environmental benefits from serving small portions such as creating less waste and reducing the need for more agriculture. Aside from the environment benefits of eating smaller portion, there can be benefits to your health. Eating smaller portions can lead to a better maintenance of weight and health related behaviors. Additionally, eating less can promote mindful eating and will aid in digestion. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Chloe Shamtob 4/10/2023 10:59 AMOn my daily walks to UCLA campus, I have noticed the serenity and beauty of the campus. I enjoyed the early morning energy boost I receive and refreshing atmosphere. Infrastructure changes that can make my walks more enjoyable are more side-walk paths and greenery around the area.-
Venice Lupus 4/10/2023 11:01 PMHi Chloe! I chose to do the same thing for my eco task this week. It has been so nice getting outside and being mindful of the Westwood area and I feel like I have started to notice that I am seeing buildings and plants that I have never seen before. I also noticed how beautiful our campus is and it makes me so thankful that I get a chance to go to this school. I have been feeling a lot more calm and grounded this week now that I have started walking everyday. I noticed one thing that could help with the walks are maybe just cleaning up the trash in the streets, I noticed that there was trash everywhere so I may make it my task next week to pickup trash that I see around campus and properly dispose of it.
